That first half-inning could not have taken more than 120 seconds.

Okay. We are here rooting for Pelfrey to get another win and for the Mets to hit a grand slam.
There are things left to root for folks.

What else should we be rooting for now so close to the end of this oh so disappointing season?

First three innings took a shade over 40 minutes. 1919 Giants and Phillies appear safe. But they didn't have commercial breaks.

Mets going for the kinda loss where the ratio of hits to runs is obscene.

Mets have 10 hits and only one run to show for it in the middle of the 6th.

So far a fine outing by Big Pelf.

A shame if it goes to waste.

Wright should have fielded that grounder that went past him for a double. And with two outs and a man on 3rd Wright muffs a grounder to his left and the Fish take the lead.
Oy.

Pelfrey is off the hook and outta the game.
I personally wanted to see him go one more.
Why not try and get him that win?

Are we playing to not lose that one game that will knock us out of the wildcard?

2 out nobody on, but a right AB so Jerry brings in the righty and the game is over. Jerry once again proves that he is an idiot. Feliciano looked good and it's Elmer Dessens in the BP but he has to go by the book. Jerry can't be fired soon enough.

I'm not absolving Dessens who should be released after the season ends but he shouldn't have been in the game.

Re: IGT 9/21/10 NYM @ FLA: We're Still In This Thing!

Although I could see Jerry getting roasted for leaving in Pedro to face the RH hitting Hanley when a poke would beat you.
My point being not to rescue Jerry so much but at some point the players have to be blamed too - in this case it's ANOTHER 2-out/none-on situation turned into a game-killer. I noted the other night that 8 of the 12 Slams this year came with 2 outs and also that I noticed a ton of 3R HRs that came w/2 outs too. It's like even in the game that they could win the team manages to take 3 or 4 key situations and muck up the entire game with them.

Tonight's line shows:
- 2 straight errors
- 5 base-runners erased
- 2-out/none-on into 3 opponent runs

Ugh, Gary cements my feeling that this season went south ever since the Puerto Rico series. I remember saying in one of those IGTs that I hope I don't have to look back on that series as the beginning of the end. But it was.

Another nice pitching performance wasted.

Some of the very same tendencies they showed late last year too, they just don't execute well. At some level, I think there's blame to be assessed to Jerry's passive, cautious, backward-looking approach.

Re: IGT 9/21/10 NYM @ FLA: We're Still In This Thing!

Yeah, when the manager's constantly playing for one run, pitchers are being asked to be perfect, and are going to be prone to giving up three while trying to avoid giving up one.

I'm with FK. Manuel is terrible, doesn't help, and I'll be glad to buy him his first post-retirement drink, but given the guy he picked to start the inning, he made the right move, sorta. Feliciano's ineffective against righties, and Jerry can't pitch the inning-- or, rather, the batter or two it should have taken for him to get out of the inning-- for Dessens.

I mean some of that shit is unavoidable or just plain bad luck.
- As much as fans like to bitch about GiDPs they happen and sometimes as a result of balls hit too well (True, I do sometimes swear that the Yanx specialize in purposely hitting balls too shitty for GiDPs when it matters but that's probably just my imagination ... running away with me). The only poor execution one tonight was the bad Pelfrey bunt.
- The caught stealings were both good throws and I approved of the runners going in both cases. Suxx but whatyagonnado?
- the errors did suck and both were caused by poor decisions: not getting in front in Wright's case and hanging back in Jose's

But the fuckin' HRs are killing us.
That's two straight games where they had the opposition at 2-outs/2-strikes - and instead of getting out of it ... or instead of having a damaging yet come-backable hit which allowed a run or three, our hurlers managed to give up the maximum 7 runs in two pitches. And the number of time that this has happened starts to make you think it's not just happenstance.
Meanwhile, our last two HRs were both solos even as we had runners on all fuckin' night, with Duda's shot coming right after one of the GiDPs
