New Memories of Jeff Francoeur
G-Fafif Sep 11 2010 11:27 PM |
Frenchy up with the bases loaded and one out versus the Great Rivera. Score tied, bottom of the ninth and, in the words of Pearl Bailey, HE HIT HIM! Jeff takes one for his new team (and the brighter side of humanity), right on the Texas flag patch, and the Rangers complete their come-from-behind victory over the MFYs, 7-6.

I heard that Rhianna/Eminem song on the radio last night that Frenchy was using as his at-bat music in his final Metly week. What a passive-aggressive type tune to play when you're supposedly trying to psyche yourself up to do something big for your team.

I looked quick nd thought it read Rhianna/Enema

Another 1AM finish - although this one was at least partly due to a rain delay. Still took them 4:16 of playing time to get through a 9-inning game.

It's a shame that there is no team to challenge them. I could see them having a very lackluster September.

Really. It's more like the sort of music to which you might cut yourself if you were a fifteen-year-old, and you were doing so expressly to get attention-- misery as fashionable pose.

Nice going Jeff, just promise me you won't look at strike three against Mo in the playoffs.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Sep 12 2010 11:17 AM Re: New Memories of Jeff Francoeur |
You're really worried he'll watch strike three?

Good memories of Cliff Lee to be had from today as well. Got home from today's uberdowner of a Mets game (save for the slew of friendly faces) in time for the ninth inning on YEECH. Michael Kay presided over a state funeral. Then, on MLB Network, they played the Rangers' feed of the final out. You'd think "Deep in the Heart of Texas" had gained a new verse.

See, that's funny, because he seemed to be doing his damnedest to keep them away from said "games."

Hey, let's not pee on Frenchtober.

If he keeps his pee off my shoes, I keep my pee off of him.

At least he doesn't pee on his hands.

In Texas, that's "Octobeour".

I hope I'm wrong. I generally think the best approach to facing Rivera is to not overthink the situation and just swing, which (in theory) should suit Francoeur well.

Was at charity event last night where a Jeff Francoeur signed ball was the only silent auction item without any bids. Until I scooped it up at the last minute for the minimum bid. That value is going to skyrocket tonight after he drives in the winning run to bury the MFYs.

Vic Sage Oct 22 2010 08:18 AM Re: New Memories of Jeff Francoeur |
if that minimum bid was higher than the cost of a baseball, i'd say you got rooked.

oh yeah, totally rooked. fortunately all the money went to the charity.

Missed this the first time around. Gold. Wildean swipes at bitchy ex-teammates, forthright assessments of an unpopular stadium... Mother of mercy! Is this the end of Robot-Wright?

Francoeur's a great role model, especially for guys like me: thanks to Francoeur, I can preserve my childhood fantasy of playing every single game for the New York Mets at RF even though I'd be the worst major leaguer at my position.

metirish Dec 16 2010 09:51 AM Re: New Memories of Jeff Francoeur |
What does it say to KC fans that Moore the GM thinks Francoeur is exactly what the club needs?
|
Edgy DC Dec 16 2010 10:12 AM Re: New Memories of Jeff Francoeur |
Well, exactly what the club needs is outside the budget. More likely, for one year at $2.5 million, he hopees that Francoeurr can hold down a job until a younger better guy takes it from him, and he's a recognizeable big league guy until then.

The way Posnanski* put it, it's consistent with his stated aims of running a team of hardworking, solid-personality, "good teammate" players... in the continued interim between the past and a rapidly-developing, minor-league-talent-fueled future (and with the understanding that 2011 is likely another year in the Royals' championship interregnum). To my mind, he's more accurate when he calls it a "hit on 20 and hope for an ace" kind of move. *Happy JoePos Day, everybody!
