Mets team photo shot today

Multiple tweets about the Mets having their team photo shot today -- and the players wearing the pinstripes, which, of course, they should be.

But does anyone else think it's odd that they shoot the team photo in the waning weeks of the season and not much earlier? Or do you think they take them multiple times during a season?

Re: Mets team photo shot today

I guess taking it at the start of the season is worse because players get traded, dumped and so on....my question is this...who is the photo for?

I would think that they'd do one in spring training, and another one mid-season. (For the revised edition of the yearbook; you know, I really miss the old-style yearbooks.) I can't imagine why they bother now, when nobody really cares about the team. What are they going to use this photo for?

I think, yes, they take them a few times during the year. It's nice that Mike Nickeas gets to keep a photo with a real big-league team if he never returns. It's sucks that Justin Turner doesn't.

Any fights during the photo shoot?

No. Fathers-in-law weren't invited.

Re: Mets team photo shot today

Does anybody here remember the details surrounding the Mets recall of a specific team photo/calendar originally designated for sale to the public?

Hint: Think Mackey Sasser and Frank Viola.

One of the tweets made a joke like "Not pictured: F. Rodriguez." I can't see any way he would have been invited.

The World Series highlight DVD. I imagine they schedule the late season photoshoot for any rookies or what not that may make the team and just didn't bother canceling the thing.

Re: Mets team photo shot today

This is an annual September rite of passage to reflect the callups if not the ultimate 2010 reality (whose face will you recall first when asked to hark back to this year -- Joaquin Arias or Jeff Francoeur?). In 2003, Pedro Astacio came out of DL mothballs to join the team picture, but not Mo Vaughn.

He was off posing with his money...and who he gave it to, one dollar bill at a time.

The Mets can always add Frankie's mug shot as an insert if they need him in the photo.

I believe the second word on his bat was "face" and not "you."

I have no idea why I remember that.

Re: Mets team photo shot today

The first printing of the Mets 1991 calendar was recalled -- most copies destroyed. Nobody noticed until after the calendars were printed, boxed and shipped to Shea Stadium for public consumption that in the split second before the team was photographed, Mackey Sasser stuck his middle finger behind and above Frank Viola's head. This put a smile on Todd Hundley's mug.

A sign the Mets would be giving us the finger for the next six seasons.

The bigger surprise is that he didn't do it to Jefferies.

Oh, and those unis were hideous.

Re: Mets team photo shot today

Back to the original question...the team photo shoot included a video segment where the Mets thank their fans. Caught that at the game last night.

Sasser's timing is pretty amazing when you consider that he likely triple pumped that bird before he got it off.
