Try and customize a jersey at this page: http://www.fanzz.com/new_york_yankees_a ... 0road.html

That's strange. You can be Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle, but you can't be Gehrig, DiMaggio, Berra, or Jeter.

By the way, what were you doing on that page? Did SteveJRogers sneeze on you or something?

(No, I don't know exactly what I meant by that "sneeze" comment. It doesn't make sense to me either!)

I can imagine Derek Jeter and Yogi, Inc. somehow getting the right to license their numbers exclusively when used on Yankee gear, but I'm surprised to see Gehrig missing.

I was there to order my new shirt.

Michael Kay was talking about this on his radio show the other day.
He was really irate that some of the famous/ retired numbers ( he specified Gehrig) could be used with someone else's name to make a buck.

Well, yeah, because Michael Kay's less credible than a drunken five-year-old Rod Blagojevich. Michael Kay doesn't buy Michael Kay.

I know that there's some precedence with allowing certain names-- beyond obscenities-- on NFL jerseys (for instance, no "Mexico" or "Ron Mexico" when Michael Vick was fielding a civil suit from a young woman alleging his use of that alias in bedding her/giving her the herp). But numbers?

Maybe this has something to do with it:

If you're feeling really twisted, you could make a Seaver 41 jersey.

It's the site, not the team.

Obviously Berra is just as protective of his Mets identity --- as is Bobby Valentine and, um, Bruce Boisclair.
