2011 Mets Calendar

Coming to a mall kiosk near you:

The 2011 Mets wall calendar is out and, as always, it's partly comprised of players that are no longer Mets and players that may not be Mets next year. In a surprise, there is no month with a picture of Joaquin Arias.

It's hard to tell, but it appears that the 12 honorees are:

Daniel Murphy
Ike Davis
Luis Castillo
Johan Santana
Jeff Francoeur
Jason Bay
Mike Pelfrey
John Maine
Jose Reyes
Francisco Rodriguez
Carlos Beltran
David Wright.

Mr. Lincoln-Murphy once again has his own calendar:

Re: 2011 Mets Calendar

yeah, I noticed that. the Calendar store in the mall appeared 9/1, and the first thing i did was check which ridiculous Mets were featured.

Re: 2011 Mets Calendar

So, to choose sanely, you have to go with Mets who sustain a decent chance of being good and a better-than-decent chance of remaining on the roster through next season.

Wright
Reyes
Santana
Pelfrey
Dickey
Pagan
Niese
Thole
Davis
Bay

Uh...

Parnell?

Umm... Umm...

Tak?

Re: 2011 Mets Calendar

Ah ... but there will be many more 2011 Mets calendars to come. The official New York Mets v.2011 -- to be sold at CF next season will surely not include Frenchy, K-Rod, and any other ex-2010 Mets.

Know what people would eat up that wouldn't likely lead to embarassment? A calendar featuring 12 prospects. They can't destroy their stocks with a single dropped popup.

Felonious assualt? Maybe.

Re: 2011 Mets Calendar

On my trip to the Empire suites level in August, I saw which baseball card (Topps, oversized) they had lining the walls to represent each season in Mets history. The 2010 choice was Jeff Francoeur. When I returned for a fleeting glance in early September, Frenchy had been taken down. In his place...nothing yet.

Out in Mets Plaza, where they hang lamp post banners of mostly retired Met greats with a few current stars mixed in, two to a pole, I noticed last week there was an empty slot suddenly next to Tug McGraw. I couldn't remember if Francoeur had hung there before, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had been Rodriguez.

Those banners, which also line the stadium and dot the parking lots, are great, one of the true upgrade touches of 2010. But almost everybody portrayed on them was let go by the Mets at one point or another, so they could have left Frenchy up there for a few more weeks.

FYI, one lamp post actually has Marv Throneberry, which shows the Mets do indeed carry a modicum of self-awareness to the table every day.

This was the Tug closest to the Apple. As you've probably noticed, they repeat several players multiple times.

I tried to get as close as possible to Marv to get a picture of his banner after I took the Citi Field tour, but was stopped -- it was the players' parking lot and the kindly old guard (who absorbed and agreed with my tirade about how this fucking place is run like a prison -- it was a very disappointing tour) explained they can't allow David Wright's car to be scratched.

Hmm, I wonder if the Mets park their cars by Throneberry and take inspiration from his befuddlement.

Re: 2011 Mets Calendar

People would probably buy a calendar every year featuring pictures of the championship teams, pratt's hr, tom seaver, etc. but if they insist on using 12 players (or at least images) currently associated with the team it shouldnt be THAT hard.

1. Wright
2. Reyes
3. Bay (you might not love him, but he WILL be here next year)
4. Santana
5. Beltran
6. Davis
7. Pelfrey
8. Pagan
9. Dickey and Niese split page
10. A selection of 5-10 prospects all on one page, some will be back, right?
11. beautiful citi field
12. Mr. Met

there, i just did better than the wilpons calendar.

Nice job Nymr83. They should have a giveaway of a calendar with those pix the first weekend of the season.

Re: 2011 Mets Calendar

Seriously, though, you have to believe the ones publishing this calendar are doing it for nine other teams and are about seven degrees removed from the Wilpons, and indeed probably don't know who the Wilpons are.
