Off tomorrow, actually closed a little early today. What made
me think of this was KB was surprised we weren't off Friday too
and I'm like Jeez we just had a three (four) day weekend.

I was surprised to find out that the kids had off from school tomorrow (after only starting yesterday!) and it took me a moment or two to figure out why. (Not why I was surprised, but why they had the day off.) I remember loving the Jewish holidays as a kid: a religious holiday where you got a day off from school and yet didn't have to go to church! What could be better than that?

People at my office only get Rosh Hashannah off if they celebrate. We do close completely for Yom Kippur, however -- which is on a Saturday this year.

Working. YK, too. By the looks of it, you'd think Mrs. Tee was the only Jewish gal in Cali.

We don't get Jewish Holy Days off. We don't even get off all the crazy Boston holidays.

Seems like they don't hassle the Jews who wanna take a day off but we don't get the holiday(s) officially. I am taking off Friday for non-religious reasons.

The kids are off tomorrow, but not Friday. D-Dad is taking tomorrow off, but it's not a work holiday.

I'm a workin. Haven't taken the Jewish holidays off since I was a kid.

I get almost no holidays off. We get one floating holiday. We can use it for Good Friday, Diwali, or Yum Kippur. (i can't spell, sue me) Or a different day with manager approval. I chose Opening Day this year. Next work day off is Thanksgiving (well, I'm taking 11 days off before that, but that's different)

I doubt that the people down here in the south even realize that it is a Jewish holiday. All schools, banks, and business are open as usual.

Our office is open; some folks take the holiday, some don't.
I don't.

Rosh Hashanah story:

On the morning of Rosh Hashanah as the congregation was filing into the Synagogue, Rabbi Liebenberg noticed little Max standing in the foyer of the Synagogue staring up at a large plaque.
It was covered with names with small flags mounted on either side of it.
The six-year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the rabbi walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly:
"Boker Tov, Max."
"Boker Tov, Rabbi Liebenberg," he replied, still focused on the plaque.
"Rabbi Liebenberg, what is this?" he said, pointing to the plaque.
The good Rabbi tenderly put his arm around Max's shoulder and said:
"Well son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service."
Soberly, they just stood together, staring at the large plaque.
Finally, little Max , in a voice barely audible and trembling with fear asked:
"Which service, Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur?"

L'Shonah Tovah y'all ...

Perfect. Just perfect. Last night, one of my daughter's friends was complaining to me because she doesn't have the day off today - she had to spend 12 hours in Synagogue. I have to share this with her and her mom.

Misspelling irony!

I'm a porkeater/milk-and-meater kind of guy, so I's working.

Re: --==++Off day check++==--

it took me till i was halfway to work today to realize that the roads were so empty because all the school traffic wasn't there. i was thrown off at first, because the one school we do pass on our way in, is a catholic school. surprisingly, they're not off today. go figure.

I was off from work yesterday and attended Rosh Hashona services.
I'll be going to work today.

I'd like to wish a Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone who is celebrating it now.
L'Shana Tovah.
