So, new electronic, federal-law-compliant voting muh-cheens make their debut during today's primary elections...

... and, whoo-ee, they gots problems.

I'm party-unaffiliated, so I'm sitting and [crossout]twiddling my skittle[/crossout] working today. Any of you good citizens see/wrangle with any of this mishegas firsthand?

Worked fine for me and all the Communists I voted for.

Seemed however not to be the most technically advanced system ever; I thought we as a society had surpassed filling in little circles like the SAT test.

Truly. I'm unaffiliated as well, and live in New Jersey anyway which at least as of last November didn't have electronic voting either.

Do they have the guides like the high school scantrons? good bubble bad bubble?

No, but they did have the world's oldest living humans trying to operate the machine, which was amusing. I took Miniwolf with me around 4:00, then my wife took him back around an hour later, and my wife said that the ancient election worker was stunned that a four-year-old would know how to use the machine that so clearly befuddled her.

Was looking forward to the "privacy sleeve," as if it was some space age contraption for our ballots. It was, in fact, a manila folder. Yawn.

Total unmitigated disaster at my polling place this morning. Granted, I was the first person through the door at 6 am but that's no excuse. The morons there had no idea what was going on and were completely unprepared. The kicker: when I inquired about when the polls close (my patience was wearing thin and I had a train to catch), the person in charge tells me the *wrong* time.

I will be filing a complaint.

they asked if i wanted a "privacy sleeve", in the spirit of filling in little bubbles i declined, figuring that anyone who didn't study might want to cheat off me.

We've been filling in SAT bubbles in MA for as long as I've lived here. I used them in VA too back in the 90's. I think only the very first time I voted did I actually go into a voting booth and pull levers and that was back in 1992.

Elderly "volunteers" appointed by party functionaries who run that particular district to monitor elections in that district are incompetent or uninformed?!?!
Whoda thunk it?

But at least there's no shot of them being corrupt ... oh wait.

the election volunteers were very helpful, except that one guy apparently needed better glasses because he glanced at the list and mistook me for a democrat. needless to say i corrected him as i do not want to fill in ANY circles on THAT ballot.
