Bob Shaw 1933-2010

Bob Shaw, a major league pitcher best known for helping shut out Sandy Koufax and the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the 1959 World Series, has died of liver caner at his Jupiter home.

I watched the '59 WS and couldn't believe Koufax could be beaten.

Never quite made it on to the list of 20 oldest living Mets. (He didn't miss by much.) Died 7 days after Wayne Twitchell. Not the shortest interval between Mets player deaths, but close. Jack Lamabe and Jim Beauchamp died four days apart in December 2007.

Bob Shaw taught Gaylord Perry how to throw the spitball; was a respectable pitcher for Wes Westrum.

in 1966, he and Dennis Ribant became the first two pitchers in franchise history to finish a season with 10 or more wins and a winning record.
