Fired

Managers getting the axe so far:

Ken Macha, Brewers
Jerry Manuel, Mets
John Russell, Pirates
Joe Torre, Dodgers (resigning)

Cubs, Mariners, Marlins finish season with interim managers, so I guess those count as open jobs also.

Dusty Baker, meanwhile, signs on for a two-year extension with the Redlegs.

Indians promote their GM to president and his assistant to GM.

Re: Fired

I wonder if Dusty would have made the fired list but for making the playoffs.

Re: Fired

Maybe, but that statement could be true for Washington or Girardi or Bochy too.

Re: Fired

Yesterday's rumors had Kirk Gibson being re-upped in Arizona despite a nothing special record since his mid-season takeover.
Don't think that's official yet but sounds like it's one job that will NOT be open this winter.

Don't forget Bobby Cox's retirement as another open job.

Re: Fired

I'll count it when it happens. As it is, the teams already in the market have a theoretical head start on the Braves.

I don't think this is true, theoretical or otherwise. If anything, the Braves have a theoretical head start on everybody because they've known this vacancy was coming for quite a while.

And yet, they haven't announced that they've appointed anybody, and certainly won't be while the team is still playing.

Re: Fired

I'm officially throwing my hat in the ring for the Brewers' job. My resume will be in the mail tomorrow.

Welcome to the shopping network, Atlanta Braves.

Re: Fired

Cox threw another layer atop those who doubt him actually staying retired when he told reporters that the cruise the team gave him as one of his going-away gifts has already been booked by his wife ... for April 2011.
