Who has one and what's she like?

I don't have one but I am asking for the Nook (the Barnes and Noble e-reader) as a Hannukah present. Unlike the Kindle, the Nook supports the EPUB format which allows one to "borrow" electronic books from local libraries.

I think I read where Amazon knows the Kindle has a limited future now that the iPad is here. I can't confirm this since I don't have either device, but the idea is, the pad can do everything the kindle does, and more.

I saw Jeff Bezos on Charlie Rose talk about that , and he made some good points, the Kindle does books, it does reading, the ipad does that but mostly it does all the other stuff. For people who want the book thing they would go with Kindle, of course he would say that but it's certainly how I feel.

I find these things a little intriguing, but not enough to inspire me to take the plunge.

I'm w/ Grimm. A woman next to me on the flight had a Kindle and was showing it off and it was alright, but I wouldn't want to look at a 'book' that way for very long. She sorta made fun of me for carrying 3 books (point, her), but i still like sticking an old skool paperback in my back pocket and going to the beach and don't want my reading to be jammed up due to dead battery/no internet access?, or what have you.

I agree. Also, you can't hold a Kindle the same way you hold a book. That matters to me. Harder to hold a kindle while gripping a subway pole with no space to move. Being able to just shove a paperback in a bag or pocket or sleeve and not worry about it helps too. Less likely to be stolen if you leave it sitting on a beach blanket. I'd enver be able to handle the multi-function iPad type readers. Too many multitasking options. I have a hard enough time focusing to read now that I have a computer as a phone in my pocket with internet access everywhere.

Have had my Kindle for almost a year now. I had all of the doubts that you all express and was not in the market for it. I got it as a gift from my sister.

Yeah, the Kindle is good. They'll also have the lending thing that Nook has within a couple of months.

After you get your mobile book-reading device, you can publish your own book via this horribly named B&N self-publishing outfit.

Oh Lord , no wonder B&N is close to going under. Love goign to my local B&N though and would hate to see it change, a great place to bring the kid and hang out.( or in Seo's case he'd probably pick up some hot chick, a scene to be added to the movie.)

mrs.mm has the nook. she loves the nook. though, she's yet to try it while hanging off a pole. her loss, and mine, i'm certain.

MM, the Nook has that feature where you can look up a word in a dictionary ?, like a long press on the word gives you the info? , not sure if Kindle does that.

Yes, Kindle does that.
