Penn State looks very young this year. That is as much as I am going to venture so far.

Tom Savage can transfer to a Sun Belt schools anytime he likes. Chas Dodd is the goods.

Amen - that's just tragic.

Which team is the ONLY one in all of D-I college football to have two 1000-yard rushers so far this season?

The Hens are likely to grab to the No. 1 ranking (from William & Mary- eat it, WP) when 1-AA ratings come out next. They are 9-1 and clinched a share of their conference title.

Re: Freakin' Rutgers - College Football 2010!

After beating Freakin' Rutgers 13-10 this past Saturday, Syracuse is 7-3 and bowl bound for the first time in 6 years.

Amazing turnaround for the program that had become the laughing stock of college football.

Even if they lose their last two games - both at home against Connecticut (5-4) & Boston College (5-5), they would still finish with the most wins since the 2001 season when they went 10-3. Considering they haven't won more than 4 games in a season since 2006, this year is a huge deal.

Head coach Doug Marrone in only his second year at SU has already brought the program back to respectibility.

Both of those are winnable, but as you said they are at home, so who knows. Pitt still has to face West Virginia and Cincinnati, so they've got a slightly tougher schedule left.

I guess even if SU was able to tie Pitt for the conference title, Pitt would still get it, based on the fact that they beat SU earlier in the year.

Pitt also has to play South Florida. For SU to win the Big East - Pitt has to lose at least two of those and SU has to beat UConn.

Ah yes. Not sure how I missed that one.

I'm fine with Pitt going off to get destroyed in a BCS bowl.

Re: Freakin' Rutgers - College Football 2010!

With a back like Todman, it's hard to see how UConn has lost 4 games.

And on a related note - WHY DOES SYRACUSE SUCK SO MUCH IN THE DOME?

I can't figure it out.

Re: Freakin' Rutgers - College Football 2010!

I don't know that it's the Dome per se. I did notice that it was far from a sell-out, yet it seems that when they play on the road other teams draw a lot better.

I don't know that that has anything to do with it though. It may be as simple as SU having played the better teams on it's schedule in Syracuse this year.

Either way however the season turns out at least the football program is without question headed in the right direction.

Actually, I watched the whole thing and it had tremendous "Train wreck" value. Mark Harrison did catch 4 TD's for Dodd.

I'm waiting for Tom Savage's transfer pepers.

USF beats former powerhouse University of Miami 23-20 and gets the Canes' coach fired in the process. First win against UM a year after first win against FSU. You're next Gators...one of these years.

So.... Syracuse will be playing in the first annual Pinstripe Bowl on Dec 30th... at Yankee Stadium.

See, now I'm torn. I'd love to try and get to see the Cuse play in a bowl game... but doing so would violate the terms of my self-imposed lifetime ban from Yankee Stadium.

Same dilemma, although I am curious about seeing the new stadium and this might be a good excuse.

So.......... UConn has won the conference title and will be going to a BCS bowl.

What a world.

The burning question - does Oklahoma win by 3 touchdowns or 4? This isn't the first time that a BCS conference hasn't produced a worthy team but hopefully it will be the last.

The Hens play Eastern Washington for the National Championship tonite in Frisco Texas (why not?) 7 pm on ESPN2.

Here's the obligatory politicians-made-a-bet story:

Blue Hens playing for steak and potatoes
January 6, 2011
By Bill Cook

When the University of Delaware football team plays Eastern Washington Friday night in Frisco, Texas, there will be more on the line than just a national championship.

For starters, how about lima beans (yes, lima beans), root beer and potatoes?

On Thursday, Gov. Jack Markell made a friendly wager with Washington Governor Christine "Chris" Gregoire over the outcome of the NCAA Football Championship Series title game between the Delaware Blue Hens and the Eastern Washington Eagles.

The game will be played at 7 p.m. at Pizza Hut Park and broadcast on ESPN2.

If the Blue Hens prevail, Gregoire will send Markell Walla Walla Wine, steak and potatoes from the Evergreen state. Washington state ranks first in the nation for per-acre yield of potatoes.

"Despite that strange red turf, the Eastern Washington Eagles are a great team – they’re fast and they’re focused," said Markell, who is scheduled to attend the game. "But we expect they’ll hit that wall of Blue Hens hard. Our players have the hearts of champions, so I am looking forward to enjoying some Washington steak and potatoes."

If the Eagles win the game, Markell will send Gregoire Dogfish Head Beach Beer (root beer), lima beans and chicken from Sussex County. The wager was based on suggestions from Delawareans through Facebook and Twitter.

"I know this will be a tough game, but I am confident the Eagles will bring home the championship," said Gregoire. "My husband Mike and I are both looking forward to grilling some Delaware chicken on the barbeque and washing it down with Dogfish Head Root beer."

Hens pull a Giants, blow a 19-0 lead and lose the national champeemship 20-19. Humiliating.

Great game, bad result. I was pulling for Delaware, but they just stopped moving the ball and Eastern Washington's offense came to life and was virtually unstoppable the final 10 minutes of the game.

Getting that first xtra point blocked hurt a lot. But geez. The first half was such a blowout I can't believe it even came to this.

Re: Freakin' Rutgers - College Football 2010!

Good thing the NCAA waited until January 7th for this game so they could give the 1-AA championship its own night ... oh wait, they put it up against the Cotton Bowl!

btw, the Cotton Bowl is no longer played in the Cotton Bowl although there was a New Years Day bowl game played in the Cotton Bowl it just wasn't the Cotton Bowl.
Ahhh tradition.
