SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, SEPTEMBER 2010

This month, the Schaefer awards go to three first-time winners.

The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for September 2010 is IKE DAVIS. Davis had 3 home runs, and 13 runs batted in during September. He led the Mets in the following categories: Runs (16), Hits (31), Doubles (8), Walks (18), Batting Average (.344) and OBP (.445). His .533 slugging percentage was a close second to David Wright's .538.

The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month is rookie DILLON GEE. Gee was 2-2 in September, with a team-best 2.18 ERA in 33 innings over 5 starts.

And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is ELMER DESSENS. Dessens edged last month's winner, Hisanori Takahashi, by .03 points. Dessens had a 2.63 ERA in September, with a 1-1 record in 16 games and 13.2 innings. He had no saves.

Iko really won it running away. Weak month for offense.

Big props on the cards, particuarly the Dillon Gee autograph.

Gee's 1975 picture is perfect. Ike's is almost perfect -- I don't remember that much visible dismay (or photographic clarity) in 1976, but otherwise the angle and framing are spectacular.

Dessens...reliever of the month honors really speak to volume, volume, volume!

The Davis card is spectacular!!! Is that a '76 Topps? I always get it confused with the '78s.

Michigan, it's a 1976. The 1978's looked like this:

(Although not every player had that deranged expression.)

Ah, that's right. I never cared for the lettering on the 1978s. Actually, I didn't love either of those sets. The 72, 73, 74 and 77 sets were always my favorites.

One of the hidden benefits of a "meaningless" stretch run is that we get to see a little shine on a few previously-unlit shoulders. I'm glad.

I usually prefer your cards with action shots, Grimmy-- a la that '78 Dickey-- but the Ike is pristine.

I dunno. The card's not centered and the top corners are dinged and rounded. It's not minty.

What he said. Not sure why that card grabs me more than the others. The year? The pose? I dunno.
Very kool looking card.
