Know Them Rangers

C.J. Wilson. Believes in the Tao and also in straight edge.

He uses a blue glove, and, like Vance Wilson (formerly) of the Mets and his chest protector, CJ gets to wear his name on hs glove, because it's the name of the manufacturer as well.

Free spirit or douche? You decide! http://umpbump.com/press/2008/02/27/cj- ... and-stuff/

Girlfriend: Dominique Piek:

Michael Young:
Former batting titlist. Former secondbaseman too, but moved to accommodate Alfonso Soriano. Half Mexican-American. Excclusively uses the Beasties ("Sabotage," "Slow and Low," and "Sure Shot") as his walkup music.

Wife: Christina Barbosa-Young, left.

Josh Hamlton: Most talented offensive player --- hell, most talented ballplayer --- this side of Albert Pujols, but has twice (at least) almost destroyed that with drugs, alcohol, and copious douchey tattoos.

Patient wife: Katie Hamlton

Re: Know Them Rangers

I can't decide if Josh Hamilton is a douche or not. He looks like a douche, but everytime I see him in an interview, it seems like he may be have a rare case of looking like a douche but not actually being one.

I like the blue glove, and would tend to think that Wilson's right about disconnectedness and overall douchebaggery of baseball players. But I'd include him as a db too.

Maybe the best explanation is that he's a drug-induced douche.
The story is that, during some downtime he had while injured as a minor leaguer and not always with his team, he started hanging around a group who hung around a tattoo parlor (always the highest class crowd). It was then that he - at least according to his version of things - got drunk for the first time, got his first tattoo, and first tried cocaine - all on the same night. Prior to that he had apparently been a pretty straight arrow; after that it was a pretty rapid downward spiral. The tattoos eventually numbered over two dozen (helping to explain the 'looks like a douche' part) and, between the physical rehab, the drug rehab, the suspensions, the bottoming out and the recovery(s), it was four more years before he had another professional AB.

Perhaps, but I couldn't get a shot of her with a skin tone that appears anywhere in the natural world. That creeps me out.

Cliff Lee: The most intimidating post-season starter since 1986, Lee has been through a child beating leukemia, and approaches the pressure of baseball with that hard-won perspective. He's an Arkansan having the time of his life down in Texas, having had a baseball season for the ages in 2008, after being farmed out during an injury-plagued 2007. As I mentioned in another thread, that minor league assignment came just after he was booed off the field by these very same Texas fans, after hitting Sammy Sosa in the head with a pitch on Sammy Sosa night.

His seasons since weren't as good, but his post-seasons? Whoooh, baby.

Many assume he's going to be a Yankee by the start of next season. He sure seems to be excited about having some control over his career. And he remains friends with C.C. Sabathia from their Cleveland days.

Wife: Kristen Lee. She may look like she's still in school, but she's our last best hope for Cliff's non-Yankeeness. If you jump ahead to "Rangers or Yankees?" in this article, you'll see that Mommy likes things as they are. We'll see.

Re: Know Them Rangers

I remember when SI did a good story about Hamilton and the other projected top pick that year -- before Hamilton got his act closer to being together -- and the article seemed to lay some blame on his parents for over-sheltering. Apparently the parents' RV followed the team bus and they would go to every game, every where. The tattoo parlor time was the first time he was both away from home and not smothered by the folks.

He seems to say the right things, and usually seems to do the right things. I want to pull for him. Being the MVP of the series that sank the MFYs makes me give him the benefit of doubt.

I wish him luck in living cleanly and well.

But if it walks like a douchebag, dresses like a douchebag, and does body shots off strange women while injury-rehabbing/has a wife that can reasonably be described as "long-suffering" without cancer or brain injury being involved like a douchebag... it's a douchebag.

Between the blaDOW and the brisket, I would marry this picture of Ms. Piek, if it would have me. Good gravy.

She was apparently harassed by Yankee fans at the Stadium when Lee pitched last week. It would be rather amusing if a handful of idiots played a major role in screwing their own team's long-term fortunes.
