The first miner just came up , it was amazing to watch, the Chilean Government have this all made up for TV. Astonishing stuff , riveting viewing.

This is Chile's announcement to the world that it's a developed country.

I already got that idea when they took that earthquake like a punch in the jaw and kept standing.

Chile is a wonderful country. I felt very much at home there and HIGHLY recommend it as a travel and vacation destination.

they seem in remarkably good shape for being trapped 2000 feet down in a hole for 69 days. I'd freak out if they tried to pull my up a narrow tube in a "capsule" for 16 minutes.

for the dark, tragic, cynical version of this story, see Billy Wilder's ACE IN THE HOLE.

The rate of rescue is speeding up. 24 of the miners are already out - only 9 to go!

An unbelievable story, start to finish. I'm thrilled that they're all okay.

This was a great story...and in my opinion well handled by the media for the past week. When the story broke, they came down with the usual doom and gloom (as was probably warranted given the severity of the situation). But they really seemed to capture the resilience and calmness of the miners and the rescue team...and stayed with an excellent feel-good story all day yesterday.

I think it helped in that sense Monk that the Chilean Government controlled the TV feed, it was quite a rousing scene watching the last miner and the President lead the rest in a rendition of the national anthem....

Re: Chilean miners rescue – live coverage

Agreed for the TV coverage...but even the DJs on the local lite-rock radio station we listen to at work were joining in the countdown all day. "15 of the Chilean miners have been rescued, 18 left to go. The rescue effort is going flawlessly."

Also, CNN.com did a great job of giving individual profiles of each miner as they came up the shaft.

I thought it was a great story that was presented in a very positive light by all outfits.

I watched a lot of the rescue on BBC America; they seemed to have the most continuous coverage.

And yes - I found the coverage to be informative, respectful and compelling. I'm thrilled that the miners all got out alive (and, seemingly, in wonderful shape!).

You guys obviously aren't focused on the Daily News piece on underground lothario Johnny Barrios this morning:
DON'T MINE ME, SHE'S MY LOVER!
Mistress gets Big kiss, but wife too angry to show up
