iTunes and iPod reloaded - v2010

batmagadanleadoff
Oct 14 2010 10:13 AM

I have a compilation box set that is comprised of the complete recordings of that particular artist, loaded into my iTunes. Does anyone know if it's possible to divide or organize the box set into the actual albums released by said artist -- but without having to create playlists -- and all the while preserving the compilation box set entry?

Also, if anyone wants to play that game where you anchor off of one of the songs in the list, here goes:

1. A.M. Mourning - Chicago - Chicago II
2. ABC - The Jackson 5
3. Aberdeen - Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Ledbetter Heights
4. Aberdeen Mississippi Blues - Bukka White - The Complete Bukka White
5. Abie Baby - Various Artists - Hair
6. Abilene - Lightnin' Hopkins - The Complete Aladdin Recordings
7. About To Make Me Leave Home - Bonnie Raitt - Sweet Forgiveness
8. Above The Clouds - Electric Light Orchestra - A New World Record
9(a). Abraham, Martin And John - Dion
9(b). Abraham, Martin And John - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
10. Absolutely Free - Frank Zappa & The Mothers - We're Only In It For The Money

I don't see why you couldn't do some "save as" on the files?

[crossout]You can also create playlists, etc., to keep them in particular groups if you like[/crossout]. (edit, didn't see where you said, no playlists)

The cloud, man. The streaming sites where you don't buy music but rather pay for unlimited streaming is the way to go today, because who needs mp3s jamming up your hard drive + a sluggish piece of software that forces you to also swallow QuickTime every few months + a busy web store that's trying to sell you TV shows and ringtones when all you want is music. Plus, a portable player that doesn't do anything but play music, requires a physical act of uploading, and has limited storage.

Lala.com was so much better than iTunes that Apple bought only to shut it down. Apple has since launched a social network around iTunes called "Ping" but that looks about as useful as Google Wave right now.

I still have a balance on my iTunes account from the day I discovered Lala, and rdio since then. They are not perfect but if they get any better it's goodbye to mp3s.

I would consider going to Get Info and editing the Album Title. Right now the album title is probably something like "John Doe's Complete Works Box Set."

You can change that so that the title is something like "John Doe's Complete Works Box Set - First Album", "John Doe's Complete Works Box Set - Second Album," and so on as appropriate. Then you'll be able to sort by album title and still have the box set all together. You can select several songs at once and edit them in bulk so it shouldn't take too long.

Re: iTunes and iPod reloaded - v2010

Yup! It's easy. You can even just click on the album title in iTunes without going into the information boxes, and just type in anything you want.

You can also drag the proper artwork into the box.

Whenever I download something from a Greatest Hits cd, I always go back and change the album name to whatever the original source was, and I make sure the year is correct, too.

I'm a little anal.

Me too. That's why I asked. It's all about the cover flow.

This solution didn't work: it divided up the original box set into my newly created albums, but failed to preserve the box set. I figured out how to do it, though, thanks to an old post from Swannie. From the main music library section, right click on whatever song you want to duplicate and "Create an AAC version" of that song. iTunes will duplicate that song, thus preserving the box set.

Thanks anyway.

Well, the thread was hopping there for a while last night. A lot of post going in at virtually the same time. I hope I get this right.
It appears that metsguyinmichigan got it rolling again by building off of "Bat Out of Hell" from Ceetar's list.
Metirish was the first to get in a submission (nosing out batmags and JCL) to build off "Be Mine" from metsguy's list.
Willets Point then built off "Beat Surrender" from metirish's list.
Batmags then posted working off of "Beautiful Day" on metirish list. U2's "Beautiful Day" also happens to be on Willet's list which was the active list in play at the time.
Other submissions were either beat to the punch by those of another poster.

I will work from "Beautiful Day" by U2 that appears on both Willets' and batmags' lists.

1. Beautiful Girls - Van Halen
2. Beautiful One - Jonny Lang
3. Beautiful Side of Somewhere - Wallflowers
4. Beautiful Thing - Sister Hazel
5. Because - Beatles
6. Before the Lobotomy - Green Day
7. Before You Accuse Me - Eric Clapton
8. Before You Were Born - Toad the wet Sprocket

Off Daisy:

Dakota - Stereophonics
The Damage Is Done - Thunder (studio and live versions; one of my favorite Thunder tunes) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--2vPFdevZM
Damn - Matchbox 20 (I really love their debut album; still good, years later)
Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangster - Geto Boys (the song from Office Space; and they say there's no good rap any more)
Damn Yankees - Damn Yankees (off the record Damn Yankees)
Damned If Ya Do - Ted Nugent (an old Damn Yankees tune unearthed for Ted's 2002 solo album)
The Dance - Garth Brooks (yes, I'm a sap)
Dance Dance - Fall Out Boy
Dance In The Middle - Rusted Root
The Dance of Eternity - Dream Theater (from their brilliant Metropolis Part 2 disc)

This is as representative of my musical tastes as much as any ten-song list you'll find. My favorite bands (Thunder and Dream Theater), a sappy ballad (Garth Brooks), hair metal (Damn Yankees), a recent song by a hair metal artist who doesn't sell records any more (Nuge, sorta), recent pop-rock (FOB), hippie college rock (Rusted Root), British alternative rock (Stereophonics), and a random rap song. Very neat.

Is your ipod working yet? If not, place it in a bowl of rice --- enough rice to completely cover the ipod. The rice will absorb the water. This method works for cell phones, though it's not guaranteed. I picked up this solution over the internet last year when I dropped my Palm Centro into the toilet (water only though, no pee). A day and a half after submerging my phone in rice, it worked again.

Office Space came out in 1999.

"Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta" was initialy released in 1992 as the tack-on single to a compliation album.

Justin Bieber and Myley Cyrus are both younger than that record.

I said bowl, not bag of rice. If you're using a bag of rice instead, then you're supposed to swing the bag over your head three times clockwise, then immediately bury the bag underground (a mashie).

That's progress. It happens in increments. When I gave my old cell phone the rice treatment, there was a period when it came on, but did nothing else and automatically shut itself off very shortly after I turned it on.

I could play off that list. But I posted one or two before, and I don't want to be perceived as a hog. But I agree that Desire is probably popular enough to be on the songlist of several posters here.
