Anyone have any experiences with this device?

Mom used one when she broke her wrist. Difficult to gauge its effectiveness on a woman in her mid-60's, but said it gave her some relief.

I can't believe you wrote the words "bone stimulator" where Fman can see them.

They should name this thing after the late Bob Gucionne.

Re: Exogen Bone Stimulator

So as some will remember I broke my shoulder in July and had
an operation putting a plate on my clavicle with eleven screws
and I'm pleased to report I'm doing just dandy with therapy and
the healing.

The surgeon wanted me to get one of these bone stimulators right
after surgery but my well known health insurer wouldn't pay for it.
The company that makes them contacted me and gave me a short song
and dance and offered to sell me one for $430 and I told them I'd
think about it and that was that.

Three months later my surgeon resubmitted the request for the doo-
hickey and the company that makes them contacted me again. They
told me I needed to send an appeal (which they sent me to fill out)
to my well know health insurer but they were sure even if they ap-
proved it there would be a one-third co-pay of $750. The told me
the device cost over $4,000, but they have a contract with my well
known health insurer to provide it at a discount of $2,250. She en-
couraged me to act quickly and just get it and after taking some
financial information they'd guarantee in writing that I only have
to pay the $750 even if my well know health insurer (let me know
when you get tired of that) didn't approve payment. Well gee, thanks
lady, I was a little embarrassed by even telling you how much our
freakin' household income was and then expecting some charity from
your kind company.

We're getting around to part where I say fuck all of them. I asked
her why would I pay $750 for something she offered me for $430 and
won't sell me now for that because "once it's submitted they can't
break the contract price and sell it for less" ... she wasn't one
who was authorized to do something like that.

God knows how much they charge the insurance company for that thing.
The whole story is a cluster fuck of nonsense. How much can this thing
really cost to manufacture? They'd sell me one for $430 but if big
daddy insurance guy wants to cover it it's $2,250 or worse over $4,000?
Fuck them all, and I'm glad I never got one and never will.

The government is going to get into this next? Whose idea was that?

Yipes, no wonder you're pissed. Meanwhile, you are also probably healed. Meanwhile, I could probably answer that one question.

Re: Exogen Bone Stimulator

The price of medical supplies bears little or no resemblance to reality.
