Strawberry Shinjo
Headed by lead singer Annie Lao, Strawberry Shinjo kicked around the East Village indie rock scene until the mid 2000's. The band cited Blondie, the Clash, and the Talking Heads as their influences, but also mixed in Latin elements to create a distinct, albeit somewhat disjointed, sound. The group disbanded after Annie's relationship with drummer Michael Scheinzeit soured. The two were rumored to have a romantic relationship.

Wilson Phillips
Wilson Phillips was a rap duo from the early 80's known as much for their breakdancing as they were for staccato musical style. Comprised of Mike Wilson (front) and Delonte "Big Sugar" Phillips, they achieved mild success with their single "Cardboard Playground", which was included in the 1984 film Breakin' (though it was not included in the Soundtrack). The group resurfaced briefly in the early 1990's when they sought an injunction against the pop trio of the same name. The suit was unsuccessful.

The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band

Swamp rock with a social message. Peyton is an outstanding guitarist (and he has to be -- he's the whole band).

Here's Mama's Fried Potatoes as a taste.

Those are great... I actually have a couple of Herbie Mann records, he's a great jazz flutist.
