On this date (October 16) in 1960 - The NL votes to admit Houston and New York to the league, the first structural change since 1900.

I was going to post the same thing - I think of them as the same team.

Today would have been my aunt's 88th birthday. Love to her and the Mets.

Not to throw cold water on the birthday cake, but aren't we celebrating the conception of the Mets rather than the birth? Whether life begins at conception is an issue best debated in another forum.

HAHAHAHA! LMAROTF If ya want to be TECHNICAL about it, Conception probably was when Branch Rickey and company formally announced the formation of the "Contintental League" which the franchise that would be the Mets (not sure off hand if the Payson family or Bill Shea were attached at this point though) was a prominent part of. So this was probably the start of the gestation period if ya want to be technical about these things! =;) Steve

I'm thinkin' that was the seduction process, Branch getting the National League drunk on antitrust threats.

Maybe the short 6 month gestation period explains the '62 season.
