Team Theme Song

The White Sox have picked "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey (1981) for their team song for the rest of the playoffs.

What popular song title "says it to you" for the Mets?

Meet the Mets

I think that's all the theme song we need.

Let's Go Mets Go.

Yeah, it's silly. But it always brings back 1986 for me.

I'm stealing this from Bill Clinton..

Don't Stop
Fleetwood Mac

If you wake up and don't want to smile
If it take just a little while
Open your eyes and look at the day
You'll see things in a different way
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be, better than before,
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone
Why not think about times to come
And not about the things that you've done
If your life was bad to you
Just think what tomorrow will do
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be, better than before,
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone
All I want is to see you smile
If it takes just a little while
I know you don't believe that it's true
I never meant any harm to you
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be, better than before,
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone
Don't you look back
Don't you look back

Indeed, Yancy. Adopting theme songs is for teams that don't have their own.

Speaking of which, anyone got a link to where I can hear Meet the Mets?

Meet the Mets. But the original of course, not the later, more PC version.

And if there were an official Mets soundtrack, The Curly Shuffle would have to find a place on it.

God, how lame do you have to be to have a Journey song be your anthem?

This isn't the official team song. It is the song the players (led by AJ Pierzynski) blare in the clubhouse. The first of these I remember was when the Pirate players of the Willie Stargell era used to play "We Are Famileee" by Sister Sledge.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I suppose "who let the dogs out" was the Met players song back in 2000.

I liked the LA Woman Mets of 1999.

And for the record, any team that uses Journey as a theme song deserves to lose.

I like this game. I mean, of course it's Meet the Mets, but is there a particular song that encapsulates the Mets 2005 season? How about individual players?

Perhaps "Ride My See-Saw" by the Moody Blues for the Mets 2005?

For A-Rod: "Common People" (Pulp, featuring William Shatner)?

For Petey, maybe a little Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, courtesy of Handsome Boy Modeling School:

Magnetizing
]Del, advancing dancing over beats
Romancing microphones wit my glorious speech
No shorts like BVD, I'm next like DVD
I hit the metropolitan wit music I be modeling
Showin off, goin off, wiggin
Biggin up the town where I come up from, my humble beginnings
The neo-narrator, creative care-taker
I'm from the Five Flavors like Solar Flares on paper
. . .
Speakin facts, we can rap
Fuck scrappin and tappin, jaws I'm crackin
Doors, open for brothers comin after me
Fuck apathy, I ain't got time to blame the world for my problems
I'm a grown fuckin man and I understand
Plus knowledge being gathered, each day make me
Speak this way, so get it
The way that I spit it, critics couldn't never call me half-witted
I'm the Riddick Bowe flowa for those in the know
My logo represents thought-processing
To keep em all guessin, wit these lyrical blessings
Class is in session, class is in session

Hypnotizing, magnificent mind set
Whenever I'm next, the shit you haven't tried yet
Live shit, magnetizing, peep what I'm advertising
My alliance got your third eye cryin

D-E-L he rips microphones, D-E-L he can't leave it alone
Can't leave it alone, he can't leave it alone

It is pretty funny to imagine a bunch of grown men returning to the clubhouse all jacked up after a big win, turning up the speakers as loud as they can go, and acting all silly to the sounds of Meet the Mets.

I really loved the ecumenical version that Edgy came up with a couple of years ago. How did that go again?

Hell, if meant the Mets had made it to the World Series, I wouldn't care if they used a freakin' Celine Dion song as the team anthem.

Dear God, Edgy, that's awful.

(In case you don't want to know, it's a bad Ricky Martin "Livin' La Vida Loca" parody featuring Mets lyrics from 2000.)

ScarletKnight41
Oct 19 2005 10:15 PM

I've always had a soft spot for Livin La Vida Loca. MK was a very late talker (although you'd never know that to talk with him now), and that was one of the first songs he would sing along with as a toddler.

That said, it doesn't hold a candle to Who Let the Mets Out?

I think it's quite clear why you never heard it.

My Mets theme song is "Feeling Stronger Every Day", and it has been since 1973, when that song was current and seemed to fit right in with their pennant drive. I never hear that song without thinking of that season -- my favorite.

Feelin' Stronger Every Day

In 1986 I acquired my first rap album, Raisin' Hell by RUN-DMC. The title track totally captures the swagger of that championship team and still makes me think of the Mets when I hear it.

Kings from Queens from Queens come Kings
We're raisin' hell like a class when the lunchbell rings
The king will be praying the hell will be raisin'
S s s something tryin' to favour but it won't be failed
But what's your name DMC the king is me
You're ha! miss on his majesty
Now kickin' the base ci ci ci concentrate
But you can't entertain DMC's the great

Dissin' all the devils brought in hotter than hell
Our very high level base the devils shall yell
Hotter than the hell is our sound supreme
So clear the the ear it is sometimes seen
So loud like a cloud with thunder and lightning
So proud to the crowd and it's somewhat frightening
And a cloud in a storm like it's this at least
Take a stopping cause I'm rockin' can I see 'is
Break

You see it's harder than hard that one kid song
Corageous and contageous so you better break off
Now I call on a road did you hear me call
Just listen what I'm dissing cause you're pissin' me off
Cold bedding is spreading all across your face
You can take when I'm rapping and that's the case
I go on and on and kick the bass
So back up overcome when I take my taste

It's like a praise when the hell is raised
So demeaning and commiting that you all stand dazed
The unbelieving reseeing provecy's so true
I got the head of the devil and I'm showing at you
My mighty mic control already brought his soul
The right king is a bowe when he rocks+n+roll
A black cat is my rap simulizing a sag
In the fire we're walkin' around
Bustin'

Rappin' and climbin' keep makin' every day
No sympathize the sound so it sounds when I say
I'm great gimme straight so that's my fate
My name is Run I'm number 1

That's how I rate
He's in the place with the bass and startin'grace
His name is J he's here to play and with this plate
He's off the wall on the ball his name is D
Kind of tall get y'all he's down with me

>From the mountain valley to the deep blue sea
The word is heard as told by D
I'm not sayin' I'm praying much to light
Like a star shining bright in the darkest night
If you are cold I bring you heat
Like I brought the world my funky beat
Mysterious is serious I ain't no joke
Fire from the desert hell and you can smell the smoke

Kickin' and dickin' while you're havin' a ball
My chicken finger lickin' I'll be vickin' you off
So do the bird have you heard they could give you a call
Just me and DMC cold shakin' the wall

There's no fearin' when here is I'm not this kind
I cross the land every minute going out of his mouth
On the face of the earth spreadin' like decease
could terminating infotrading like a horde of beasts

Throwin' out lyrics to a discussion
Ruler of rap the king I go crushing
Puller of people controller of crap
LiGeLi lyrics all lasting and loud
Left y'all ah to the left y'all
because I'm rockin' upon the mic real def y'all
And to the right y'all ah to the right y'all
because I rock upon the mic all night y'all

You see I walk respect and I correct
Like all on the ball that I have checked
And the shots they take have no effect
The pope try to dope but he broke his neck
Cause I rock harder than I get father
You want a battle D hey please don't bother
To waste your time measure with my rap
The only kick you get out of is sittin' behind
