Tech help needed

I have Qualcomm's Eudora e-mail program on my home computer and it's worked lovely for the three years I've had this computer. Until now. Each time I try to open it I get this message which could be in Farsi for all I understand of it:

The QCUTILS.DLL file is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL:6567

I've already tried reinstalling Eudora to no avail. Google searches have brought up advice to reinstall things from the MS Windows disk but I got this computer second-hand so I don't have that software. It also suggests extracting files to replace, but it gives me no idea what file I need to extract. Anyone have a clue on what I can/should do?

I use Eudora too.

Have you tried downloading the latest free version from www.eudora.com?

I used Eudoro for years too and stopped because I was getting stupid
messages not unlike that one. Not that changing programs is always my
solution, but you might want to try Thunderbird - I like it a lot and it's free.

Yancy - I just tried downloading the new version and get the same damn message. I think it's more of a Windows problem than a Eudora problem.

KC - A good suggestion, my main concern being that I have archived e-mails I'd have to figure out how to migrate assuming I can ever see them again.

Select Start/Run from Windows, and type "cmd" to get to a DOS prompt.

Do the following:

CD \

DIR MFC42.DLL /S /P

I have a MFC42.DLL in my windows\SYSTEM32 directory. If you don't, it may help if you put one there. You might be able to find the file on the Internet or, if you like, I can e-mail you mine. I don't know if my version is the one you need, though, so if it's not you can always remove it.

Mine is dated 08/04/2004.

I tried installing Thunderbird, but I couldn't get it to work.

What is a Crash Dump file, and why is it on my C Drive?

What should I do about it?

Last guy I saw "installing" Thunderbird was some bum I passed in an alley.
Didn't seem to be "working" too well for him either.

I have several MFC42.DLL in my systems folder but I still couldn't get Eudora to find it. After following several suggestions from Yancy and the web, I gave up and installed Thunderbird. I was able to import all my old messages from Eudora and then deleted all the Eudora stuff from my computer. Things are still not perfect - I keep getting BSOD's when I use Thunderbird - but it seems like a nice program and at least I can read my email. Mostly I just need a new computer.

Thanks for your help Yancy and KC.
