Is There a Doctor In The House?

I was just half-listening to tv. An ad came on for a new Type II Diabetes drug. The name sounded like Avantia.
At the end of the ad, they went through the standard list of possible adverse reactions. And then the announcer said that the drug could "increase the possibility of pregnancy".

Since I'm male, if I took the drug, the likelihood of that happening is about the same as me starting in centerfield for the Mets next year. But

Wussup with that? What has a drug that allows your body to better use its natural insulin got to do with pregnancy?

Curious.

My guess would be that it interferes with the effectiveness of your birth control pills. But you would think they would just say that, wouldn't you?

"May increase the possibility of pregnancy" certainly does get your attention!

I'm guessing that it's the medical equivalent of raw oysters or a few glasses of wine.

The drugs send a message for your pancreas to kick into overdrive, but maybe sometimes your ovaries get the message also.

Maybe the active ingredient is sperm.

]What are possible side effects of Avandia?

-------------------------
* ovulation (release of egg from an ovary in a woman) leading to pregnancy. Ovulation may happen in premenopausal women who do not have regular monthly periods. This can increase the chance of pregnancy.

I think it is because they are made from monkey semen, that ovary thing is a cover-up.

I was going to say thanks. But after that monkey semen comment, I'm not too sure.

The thanks due for my good efforts in researching shouldn't be affected by other posters' subsequent comments.

Regardless MFS62, I'd be wary of this drug. There could be some serious complications in a man your age carrying a baby to full-term.

As the old joke goes, I think its a baby elephant. The trunk is already hanging out.
