Re: AL- NL Rookie of the Year

no Strasburg votes? heh.

Good job by Posey, since Heyward was the favorite from about March 10th. Ike's midseason slump hurt (not that he had a chance) but he wasn't that far off Heyward. a dozen or so walks and half a dozen hits were probably the difference. Davis actually slugged better. Surprised Garcia didn't get more votes, and I suspect they heavily favored playoff teams here.

So at least 3 writers thought that Walker & Sanchez were better than one or both of Posey & Heyward?
Yeah ... OK.

Only Isringhausen is correct, 4 points in 1995.

Correct! 1 point (ie. 1 third-place vote) in 2003.

Wright's rookie year was 2004 but he got no ROY votes.

32 voters, so, doing the math... two left them off completely (only 31 voters had each of them on the ballot).

Good work, Messrs. Kikuchi and Kovacevic (the latter, a Pirate beat writer, pencilled in both of the Pirate votes).

Re: AL- NL Rookie of the Year

Hmmm. My apologies to LWFS for the Rey Ordonez, my source on this was clearly incorrect.
Matsui and Reyes are correct.
Huskey is incorrect.
Other answer we were looking for was Bobby Jones, 1994.

Davis - 2 points, 2010
Payton - 37 points, 2000
Ordonez, 6 points, 1997 LWFS
Isringhausen - 4 points, 1995 Lunchbucket
Bobby Jones - 3 points, 1994
Wigginton - 1 point, 2003 Edgy
Reyes - 1 point, 2003 metsmarathon
Matsui- 1 point, 2004 metsmarathon

How the living hell did Kaz Matsui get a vote? David Wright outproduced/equaled his counting-stat production in just over half the PAs the same year.

Thus making Stephen Strasburg the first player in major league history to earn presumed induction into the Hall of Fame before Rookie of the Year balloting could kick in.

Speaking of Cooperstown gunjumping, Gregg Jefferies remains, as far as I can tell, the only player to win Rookie of the Year votes in two consecutive seasons, with a late, giddy surge in 1988 and a best of the rest in 1989.

Matsui homered on the very pitch he saw on Opening Night and at least one writer said, "I've seen enough," and sent in his ballot.
