I'm wondering about the validity of this jersey:

They've done green jerseys for March 17 games as long as I can remember, actually. I recall catching a game as a kid and being very confused. Whether or not he pitched, he would have worn it in the dugout.

But March 17 would spring training, no? I just find it hard to believe they'd release a special jersey for a ST game. Besides, in ST games aren't players names omitted from the jersey?

Yes, it's always spring training, and they've been wearing the green for many years?

Many teams have done this for St. Patrick's Day. They don't want any trouble from Big Irish.

Well, because ST games don't exactly reach a large audience. But thanks for the clarification guys. At least, now I understand why I was oblivious to them. But it still seems peculiar that M&N would choose to resurrect them as part of their throwback range, unless they have some sort of cult following that I'm unaware of.

Maybe I'm mistaken but I think it's been awhile since the Mets carried on that tradition. They've played with green-billed caps on STPD but I think that's it.

You'd be surprised what kind of audience these things get. The first team to come out in green on St. Patrick's Day was the Reds, interestnigly enough. Bob Murphy, of all people, would joke about it, how they'd always make like it was a surprise, but after two or three years, nobody was surprised. But for some teams, particuarly those in the Northeast corridor of the US, enterprising merchandisers have learned there's a large overlap of folks with pride in their team and pride in their heritage, and where that overlap lies, money is waiting to be spent.

Catch the right early-season game, and you'll eye more than a handful of the greenies visible in the Citi stands. (A lot of Murphs and Francoeurs last year... I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.)

I've seen plenty of decidedly not Irish looking people wearing those jerseys , pretty big with the hip-hoppers.......the Knicks feature a green St. Patrick's jersey too.

I have a green mets cap with a shamrock on the back. It is my favorite Mets cap and I wear it quite often.

A cutiepie showed up at the MOFo picnic in one of those shamrock hats.

That hat was an Irish Nite givaway. The game was the one when Agbayani gave the ball away. Black 47 concert afterward.
