Mets - Jersey

I think I'm the only CPFer who lives anywhere near Secaucus, New Jersey, so everyone else is probably thinking, "Who gives a rat's bum?". But, personally, I will flip, flop, and fly out of sheer happiness if this ever comes to fruition. themetsfairy posted that to facebook yesterday. It excites me, though I'm further north and probably still better off driving to Citi. (Last year when I left Fairfield, NJ at 5, I was usually able to get to Citi Field by 6. Of course, taht dropped to 6:45-7 if I picked up the wife)

This is pretty much the worst possible idea they could think of. Maybe if that crook of a governor over there in New Jersey hadn't interfered with the critical "ARC" rail tunnel stupid ideas like this wouldn't be considered. (No offense intended to Chad as I too would like him to have easy access to the games).

I know it's a pipe dream. But taking NJ Transit and transferring to the 7 at Secaucus would be much better than my current commute to games (NJ Transit to Penn, and either th LIRR or the 1, 2 or 3 to Times Square, and then to the 7).

The PATH train sucks. I mean, it's better than NJ Transit, but to get to midtown via a subway would be nice. the PATH is basically a subway for Jersey City/Hoboken/Newark, neither of which are fun to drive to either. so if we have to take NJ Transit there anyway, being able to hop on the 7 would be much preferable. But yes, we have a horrible governor who is apparently selling t-shirts?

Yeah, the ARC tunnel was probably more important and would have provided more benefit to more NJ residents. But the 7 train plan provides more benefit to me, and I'm self-centered and narrow-minded. Also, given that our crook of a governor did kill ARC dead, I do think this is the next best thing. And it does have the advantage quoted in the article of better connectivity to the MTA than NJ Transit provides. It really is a pain to get anywhere on the east side if you live in Jersey. PATH's OK. But it runs infrequently nights and weekends. Of course, that problem could be solved relatively cheaply by running more trains on nights and weekends. But the connectivity to the subway system is pretty bad with PATH, too. Either way, I agree with metfairy that this is yet another NJ public transit pipe dream, and I'll file it with my many other NJ public transportation pipe dreams (ferry to Brooklyn, anyone?). But, hey, I can still hope.

All this is well and good for you New Jerseyans ('-ites'?), but you do realize that if it ever does happen (HA!) it will be at least 10, 15 or even 20 years from now. You won't have to worry about a train to Citi Field because we'll all be flying there...in our cars! Second Avenue Subway is in full swing and it ain't even close to being done. Fulton Street Transit Center is in full swing and it ain't even close to being done. Grand Central Extension (LIRR railroad link) has begun and it ain't even close to being done. That's 3 MAJOR projects that the cash-strapped MTA has fully committed to. Extending the 7 is a nice idea, and the fact that the 7 tunnel extension to 34th street & 11th Avenue is already completed makes this idea even easier to deal with but even if they agree to do it, it'll just take forever.

Used to work in fairfield (Totowa as of a month ago). I worked right off 80, so I would skip out 5 minutes early, floor it eastward, and make it to about the FDR before traffic usually caught up with me. now it's an extra 5-6 minutes before I can get to route 80. We'll see what affect that has come April, with getting to games.

Born in New York. Went to NJ for the Wonder Years (6th-12th grade). After college, came back to New York. I like it better here, but the six-year immersion really helped my oral and written New Jerseyan (as well as building up my diner-ordering skills). Question: how long did the Lincoln and Holland take to build?

Lincoln Tunnel was funded by the Public Works program as part of the New Deal and ground was broken in 1934 with the Center tube opening in 1937. The North and south tubes were opened in 1945 & 1957 Any new tunnels or subways to or fro NY- NJ will not be completed in Ashies lifetime so basically I don't care.
