"We have summers in Arizona and winters in New York," Melvin said in March before a Mets spring training game against the Atlanta Braves, as he began his tenure as a Mets scout. "You'd think it would be the other way around in a perfect world, but that's the way we've done it." Also: Melvin resides in Cave Creek, Arizona, with his wife, Kelley. He has one daughter, Alexi, who is an actress, studying in New York City. During the off season, Melvin and his wife frequently stay at their apartment in New York, with their daughter. Would the struggling-actress daughter of a manager (or bench coach) count as a MLBS? Mrs. Melvin has a Margot-Kidder-minus-the-smoking-and-mental-illness thing going on.
