As John Hall's tenure comes to an end as the only member of his party to represent New York's 19th Congressional District since World War I, we salute the Old Mole buddy and two-term Congressman with this Orleans-flavored Desert Island Poll.

Join me, won't you? We're in the back of your parents' car on some pleather upholstry. We're ten years old heading for some summer spot and one of these is coming through the speakers and you CAN'T HELP BUT SING ALONG. Which one will you be singing along to years later on the barren beaches of Pagoluna when you have none to keep you company but your playlist and a pile of coconuts?

Less time in DC for Hall means more concerts at Opus 40. There's always an upside. John still has a lame duck session. Let's boost his spirits and let him know our favorite Orleans tracks.

1) "Let There Be Music." (Dig the brief bio.) : #55 in 1975

2) "Dance With Me": #6 in 1975

3) "Still the One": #5 in 1976

4) "Reach": #51 in 1977 (live at Opus 40 in 2003!)

5) "Love Takes Time": #11 in 1979

6) Write in your favorite.

I'd describe them as a 70s vocal rock band with soul and doo-wop influences.

'Still the One' was such a home run, it's really only a race for second place here.

This reminds me that I want to put up a Yacht Rock poll.

I went with "Still the One," still one of the great songs, but I'll also toss in a write-in for this one:

That a Richards original?

Yep -- it's on John's last album before he ran for Congress.

They don't write 'em like that anymore.

Is it obligatory to put up polls for like the worst possible acts?

Re: Still on That Island After All these Years

The vocals have more than a small hint of Warren Zevon.

But predated Zevon by a little, although they were pretty contemporaneous.

Not suggesting it was a copy job, only that the voices are similar.

I haven't heard of this band since high school and the memories are still good.

I like "Still the One."

I covered a Bush rally in 2004 and they blasted it from the speakers when he was shaking hands after speaking. Few things I've experienced match the energy of a political rally with a sitting president. Just a fun memory.

I wonder if Hall can sue him.

If it's going to be John Hall, then the choice is Ain't Gwine to Whistle Dixie (No Mo) with Taj Mahal. John's solo is at about 4:00.

As a song, it would be "Still the One," but that still has some bad memories for me.

I"m a "Dance With Me" person. Always takes me back to my last Halloween as a trick or treater, 12 years old. Sweet song -- if not as sweet as whatever landed in my plastic pumpkin that night.

The "Dance With Me" bloc adds another member. It can take you where you want to go.

cooby goes out of her high school years and picks the 1979 song.

That's cooby. You expect her to zig and she zags.
