Alright, the above is all 28 Beatle songs that George Harrison sang lead vocal on, time to make a 10 song, Best Of Beatle Years tape/CD/mp3 Playlist. Where are you going?

All the well known ones like Something, Taxman, While My Guitar, Beethoven, etc? Mix it up a little with some lesser known Harrison album cuts? Only go with ones George penned himself and leaving out his covers?

Hard one for me. George was a favorite of my mom's and so I paid attention :)

I ended up picking Devil In her Heart.

BTW, though George's post Beatle career was equally gorgeous, check out "Fab" when you get a minute. It's catchy

You guys are being invited to pick 10 songs, not one. Else this poll is torture.

When I saw Dark Horse in the thread title I thought it would be a George solo thread.

Yeah, nice bait-'n'-switch, Steve.

I'm crazy for George, and it was illustrative to me to realize how much I conflate so many of these songs with others and sub-categorize his Beatles catalog.

Romantic Songs from the Lennon-McCartney Reject Pile
"Do You Want To Know A Secret?"
"I'm Happy Just To Dance With You"

Early Covers
"Chains"
"Devil In Her Heart"
"Roll Over Beethoven"
"Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby"

First Original Romantic Songs
"Don't Bother Me"
"I Need You"
"You Like Me Too Much"
"If I Needed Someone"

Snarky Songs
"Think For Yourself"
"Taxman"
"Only A Northern Song"
"Piggies"
"I Me Mine"

Indian Phantasmagoria
"Love You To"
"Within You Without You"
"It's All Too Much"
"The Inner Light"

Songs of Yearning in a Fallen World
"I Want To Tell You"
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
"Long, Long, Long"

Sliding Blues Shuffles
"For You Blue"
"Old Brown Shoe"

Legendary Breakup Era Ballads That Have Been Covered a Million Times
"Here Comes The Sun"
"Something"

Not Quite Filler, But...
"Blue Jay Way"
"Savoy Truffle"

I had to amend my vote. I missed that we could vote for more than one song until Edgy posted that we could choose up to 10. Apparently, my reading skills are lacking as SJR clearly said the same thing in the initial post.

"Here Comes The Sun" still sounds fresh after all these years. A magnificent song. Brings a smile to my face every time.

If I ever get around to relaunching my Mets & baseball podcast, that is going to be the opener to the Spring Training preview episode.

Heh, just be glad I'm not allowed to hit you with all 72 McCartney led songs, or the 97 songs Lennon is credited as the lead vocalist.

And FWIW, doing a 10 songs for Ringo's lead vocal would be more of, which Ringo led song do you like the least as there are only 11 of those.

I was close on it. It kind of sounds like "The Word" and "Wait," so I sometimes forget it's George.

Still unclaimed on the wiaver wire:

"Chains"
"Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby"
"You Like Me Too Much"
"Piggies"

I'd have guessed "Only a Northern Song," deliberately written to underwhelm. Who voted that? Five of us? Really?

Piggies and Think for Yourself just missed my top 10 cut. Both are interchangeable with any of my last five, though.

Re: Desert Island With The Dark Horse: The Beatle Years

I find it interesting that when The Beatles were recording Abbey Road, and John's mind was on Yoko and Paul's mind was on his solo album, George created two masterpieces: "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun."

As for "Weeps", every version I own is magnificent. The Anthology version and the version from Love (Anthology + a new string section as written by George Martin) are almost as good as the original. The new version by Santana (not Johan) with Indiria.Arie is also worthwhile.

The cool thing is that Dhani looks intimitaded and just trying to keep up in the first. In the second one, he looks locked in, mature, and confident.
