Jeff Francis

Mets have made an offer for diminutive lefty curveballer Jeff Francis, according to Some Guy On The Internet.

I guess the eggheads think if they throw enough guys with injured shoulders against the wall one of them will stick.

I kinda like Francis, but seems as though he's on a lotta team's lists.

Re: Jeff Francis

I confuse him with Dick Francis, who writes myseries about racehorses, but then I shake my head clean and I remember (1) he found a way to succeed in Colorado (even pre-humidor, I think), and (2) he's um... well maybe I just remember (1).

He's a lefty, I think, and exclusively a starter. That's it. I'm done.

I'm pretty sure he's Canadian, so he prolly played Jr. hockey with Jason Bay.

Re: Jeff Francis

That sounds vaguely similar to Isiah Thomas' rationale for how all his crappy signings with the Knicks were somehow part of a master plan to bring LeBron James to New York - that these players all "played AAU basketball", so they would therefore be friends with James.

Sorry, bit of a stretch in logic there, but I still can't get that insane interview Thomas did a short while back out of my head.

Came in 9th in NL Cy Young voting in 2007..Had some arm issues. A bit of a soft tosser now with a high WHIP.

Decent gamble at the right price.

This. Virtually identical home/away splits over his career in Colorado, which I'd think must be unusual.

I'd be fine with welcoming Francis to the NYM.

Big prospect w/Colorado at one point. Still young.

And if he gets too wound up during a game we can all yell 'LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS' in unison. That'll be fun.

Trustworthy name.

And, Christ, a reanimated Darryl Kile would be worth a gamble at the right price. What's the right price?

If guys have injured shoulders, isn't it a bad idea to throw them against the wall?

Got a picture of Jeff running a mile high on my blog, which I'd paste here if I could connect with something other than my phone

Re: Jeff Francis

And remember, that sign is good luck. I got a job while standing outside Coors field before taking it, and a couple of beers afterwards.

Good luck for Francis as well, who continued rehabbing whatever injury it was, got back on the field, and made it through to the end of the season.
