Re: Rudolph Alert!

I missed it, but had I seen it, I surely would have commented on just how big of a dick Santa is in this show.

Re: Rudolph Alert!

The broken link was to a conversation on that exact topic.

It turns out I actually preserved this much of it -

Rudolph raises some difficult issues.

Why were the other reindeer so mean to him? Just because he looked different? How could they exclude him from the reindeer games just on the basis of appearance?

And Santa allowed this? Why?

Of course, then they actually NEED Rudolph's deformity to help them out during the foggy Christmas Eve. You kind of want Rudolph to just tell Santa and the clique of 8 to just go to Hell, but he doesn't. Is Rudolph masochistic? Does he have such low self esteem that he's willing to put his pride last? Or maybe he just put the needs of the children of the world above his individual needs. In which case, the other reindeer shouldn't have merely loved him as a result, but they should have downright worshipped him, dammit, and begged him for forgiveness for how shabbily they had treated him up to that point. Santa as well!

Deep cleansing breath...deep cleansing breath....

My post actually set off a pretty funny discussion. I'm not going to reprint all of it here, but one of my favorite Internet friends posted this, as Rudolf's agent -

Dear Mr. Claus:

Please be advised that this office represents Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (hereinafter, "Rudolph"). Rudolph hereby rejects your offer of one Christmas carol in exchange for sleigh-guiding services on the night of December 24, 2002.

However, as the delivery of toys remains a high priority for Rudolph, he offers the following counter-proposal. Rudolph will agree to guide your sleigh on said night in exchange for the aforementioned Christmas carol, a holiday claymation special, a riding fee of $200,000.00, 50% of the gross revenue of all merchandise featuring Rudolph, and 5% of the net revenue of all merchandise featuring Santa Claus and/or the North Pole.

Additionally, Rudolph will require a contract granting exclusive sleigh-guiding rights for the next fifteen (15) years. Rudolph will be entitled to his riding fee whether or not weather conditions render the need for his nasal illumination.

Please contact me once you have reviewed the above offer. In light of the holiday spirit, I remain confident a resolution can be reached. Please be advised that if no response is received within five (5) days of your receipt of this letter, Rudolph will pursue one of the many Chanukah-related offers he has received.

Re: Rudolph Alert!

I also thought the Lion on the Island of Misfit Toys was a bit of a tool as well. Rudolph, Hermie, and Yukon risk life and limb across the treacherous arctic to help his damn island. So what do they get in return. Oh, you can spend one night here, then get the hell out, and yeah, you can sleep in a room about the size of a broom closet, despite the fact that I have an enormous lavish castle right here. Now be gone while my lickspittle draws me a bath.

Re: Rudolph Alert!

i was expecting an actual explosion, or at least a popping. the real story is that rudolph has been living the good life, and has clearly let himself go since winning that sweet guiding contract.

I was hoping for explosion too, but the slow deflate is actually pretty funny.

MiniWolf made us watch the animated Rudolph sequel last night. Insipid.
