Where Do You Lay Your Head?

We've ben mattress shopping and have discovered a hitherto-unknown nefarious subculture of morally compromised folks laying the hard sell on us, 10-year warrantees not worth the paper they're printed on, and beds that we've liked on the salesfloor only to come home and find "stay the hell away" reviews on the Internet.

I like something firm enough to sleep Barney Rubble. She's a true princess, in that she can feel a pea through 20 mattresses. We seem happy with firm matreesses with quilted cushioning on top. But not one of those pillowtop babies. So that's not too much to ask for. But where do we find such a setup without getting a highway robbery. We've been looking at Stearns and Foster (and other 1982 Mets), and Simmons Beautyrest, but neither seems to be getting consistently good reviews.

Re: Where Do You Lay Your Head?

We got the Gene Simmons Beautyrest. I don't know what model or whatever, but we prefer firmer to softer, and it's held up well after ~6 years I guess. Our only retail bugaboo was getting jacked into buying one of those protectors that are supposed to help if you accidently empty your bathtub onto your mattress, but no problemo.

If maybe Ms. Bucket or the label has the model name, that would be helpful. There's Beautyrest and then there's Beautyrest.

Re: Where Do You Lay Your Head?

I looked it up and found we still had the receipt. Simmons Glenridge Firm. I bought it direct out of the 1-800-Mattres (leave off the last S for savings) warehouse which used to be (maybe still is) in Long Island City, so it may have been a discontinued model.

Thanks.

Apparently, you're the only one here with a bed in the bower.

Got a Kingsdown a few years back after lying on a bunch of beds at a local Sleepy's. Love it.

Re: Where Do You Lay Your Head?

Kingsdown does kick ass-- it's what the folks had when I was growing up. You should get a Murphy setup, and have it arranged so that it comes down majestically when you clap all officious-like for it.

We've got a "king" made up of two strapped-together Serta twins. It's like when two kids in the movies sit on each others' shoulders inside an overcoat to impersonate an adult... only we sleep on it.

Re: Where Do You Lay Your Head?

The hierarch from manufacturer to brand to series to model to etc. is very confusing.

Check out this product advertised at the Sleepy's site:

That's three trademarks in one name!

The Kingsdown Difference
A sleep system should do more than feel soft and cozy. Your body needs proper postural alignment not only to keep you comfortable, but also to allow your spine to get the nutrients it needs for a healthier back.

Alrighty, then.
