CPF Charity Gift Exchange 2k10 !!!!??????!!!!!?!??!

A Boy Named Seo

Hiya beautiful peeps...

Me again. A Boy Named Seo. Asking you to jingle-jangle some spare change from the bottom of your purses/murses/European carry-all's in the name of a splendid, long-standing Crane Pool Forum tradition, the Charity Gift Exchange.

It's a simple thing. You put your name in a hat (this thread), along with the name of a charity you support. Then we have a drawing, see. Then you give a small monetary gift of pre-determined amount to the name of the charity you drew, most of the time around $20 bucks or so. That's it. Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy.

It's a nice way to do a little somethin'-somethin', and learn about a new good cause or two we might to get involved with along the way.

If you want in, say so here, and we'll get this thing rolling.

If you're not sure which charity you want to back, or have one in mine and want to see how they run their operation, Charity Navigator has been a good resource for us in the past.

http://www.charitynavigator.org/

Anywho, Happy Holidaze, Crane Poolers. Yall are the nicest bunch of strangers I've ever talked about stupid crap with on the internet. I mean that.

PS - thanks, ChadEightySix for waking me up.

Hudson Cradle of Jersey City, NJ. They provide shelter and medical care to babies born to homeless parents. My girlfriend is a volunteer baby-cuddler there.

They do great work, as far as I know. And what on earth is cooler than saying "my girlfriend is a volunteer baby-cuddler"? So they're definitely worth a few dollars this Xmas.

3D - are you sure about this choice? In the past we've steered clear of political causes, and tried to make this geared towards service-oriented charities. I think that's a large part of the reason why this has been such a popular event every holiday season.

Here's a story I wrote about this group, which my paper has been organizing for 59 years but has been around for more than 100. These are good folk, buying presents each year for poor children. I've gone with them on delivery day a couple times for stories, and it's heartbreaking to realize for some children, these will be the only gifts they receive.

Done and done. You guys are the least slimy group of people I ever met on the internet.

BTW, as a five-year old, I ws burned out of my apartment and the Red Cross were among the first responders. I'll never forget that.

Dear DocTee,

Every day, your local American Red Cross chapter is working for your community–keeping people safe and connecting those in need with essential resources in the face of emergencies. Thank you for your gift that makes this possible.

Whether it is responding to a home fire in the middle of the night that affects a single family or opening a shelter after a disaster that displaces an entire community, your local chapter is prepared twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to bring comfort and care. They also empower friends and neighbors to save lives through a variety of training courses including first aid, childcare, CPR and AED. Volunteers stand ready to assist military families who need to connect with loved ones overseas or a soldier who requires medical care to transition back to active duty.

Your gift is an investment in your community and helps to support our lifesaving mission down the street, across the country and around the world. Thank you for reaching out to others through the American Red Cross. Please visit us at redcross.org to see the current disaster updates, stories from those who needed us, and how you are making a difference.

Sincerely,

I made my online donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Second Spitter's honour on Friday night, but haven't yet received a confirmation, and it hasn't shown up on my credit card. I imagine they're examining the donation particularly closely ("He knows the Second Spitter? Watch out for the Spitter...that guy's cash bounces!").

If it doesn't hit my credit card in the next few days, I'll look into it.

Re: CPF Charity Gift Exchange 2k10 !!!!??????!!!!!?!??!

I made a donation in G-Fafif's name for the charity he nominated but didn't receive a confirmation. I checked my cc statement and it went through. Sorry for the delay, I was away.

Re: CPF Charity Gift Exchange 2k10 !!!!??????!!!!!?!??!

DocTee, I made my contribution to St Jude's today. I was going to send it in honor of my nephew Joseph, but they needed his email address, and he is only one year old (he doesn't have one yet!) so I just sent it plain :)
All children count with me anyway...

Have a wonderful holiday season and New Year!

Re: CPF Charity Gift Exchange 2k10 !!!!??????!!!!!?!??!

It took a while, but I finally was able to get a donation in to Fman's charity. They were very quick to respond to my email inquiry regarding myprior attempts to make a donation being denied. They said they were unsure of the cause of the difficulty.

Tonight I was able to get the donation accepted by their site.

Purchase Description
Donation-other amount; In honor of the Fman family

Payment Details
Order Number: 1293596463555
Subtotal: 25.00
Tax: 0.00
Total: 25.00

I'm always happy to take part in this wonderful CPF holiday tradition of helping others. As always, thank you to Seo for organizing this once again this year.
