On April 26, 27, and 28, 2012, Hofstra University, with the cooperation of the New York Mets, is going to host a conference, open to the public, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the team. The conference is being organized by me, Dana Brand, and a colleague of mine at Hofstra, Richard Puerzer. In the next few months, we expect to be sending out a Save the Dates announcement and a Call for Papers Announcement. Other correspondence will follow in the course of 2011.

We are currently assembling mailing lists for the conference. If you would like to receive our announcements, please e-mail me at danaabrand@yahoo.com. If you’d like to receive the announcements only by snail mail, please give me your name and mailing address. If you’d only like to receive our announcements only by e-mail, please give me your name and e-mail address. If you’d like to receive our announcements by snail mail and by e-mail, please give me both your snail mail and your e-mail addresses.

This is going to be a terrific conference, the first ever to explore ALL ASPECTS of the existence of a major league baseball team. Get on the mailing list, or get the latest information by following the announcements that will appear on my blog.

Re: Get on the Mailing List for the Mets 50th Anniv Conference

I've long wanted to do something tlike this. My vision was a mini-SABR conference focused on the Mets, without the organizaiton's cooperation, but this sounds wonderful.

I salute you, Professor Brand, and appreciate you alerting us. Please include updates in this thread, including any calls for session/workshop/presentation proposals. Because what's a conference without CFPs?

It would be nice if the Mets are home that weekend, although it will be almost another year until we find out if they are.

I'm already working on my "Great Misunderstood Left Fielders in Mets history" presentation and panel discussion.

Re: Get on the Mailing List for the Mets 50th Anniv Conferen

That sounds great.

My strategy is to propose a paper that's so esoteric-sounding that they have to accept it. The last time I presented at a conference of this nature, I lectured on "Metacongnition of Range Factors Among Antidiluvian Met Secondbasemen and the Liiberation of Ahistorical Consciousness."

Here's me holding the door for a few extra minutes so latecomers wouldn't be forced to catch up.

I still have some of the handout packages if anybody is interested.

Norrin Radd will provide counterpoint: "Kevin McReynolds sucked!"

Edgy, We'll be publicizing this with SABR too. And I will be sure to post updates about the conference to this thread.

Yes, we don't know if the Mets will be home. We're keeping our fingers crossed. I'm particularly hopeful that Gary, Howie, and Ron will be able to attend if they are. The Mets say that they are going to help us get some former players to attend, but of course we'd like to see a few current ones as well.

By reviving it, you've made sure of that. Only threads that have been inactive for at least a few months get archived.

Thanks for the package, Edgy.
Great work.
And that picture of Chuck Hiller on the cover gave it a special touch.

I can't promise that... Make a note to yourself to post something in this thread every three months or so, and that should keep it safe.
