CPF Annual Winter Meetings

I figured this year we could switch it up and gather at Darryl Strawberry's joint, you never know, the Man might be there.

I was going to suggest March 20 in Manhattan, because I'm running the NYC Half Marathon again so I'll already be in town....

seawolf17 Dec 27 2010 06:53 PM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
It should definitely be at Straw's. Good call. Accessible by train, too! I'm assuming it's too early to know the TV schedule for ST games?
|
Ceetar Dec 27 2010 07:03 PM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
|
All home games are on SNY. all the schedules are final now I think. the only think to think about would be a (whichever college basketball uses SNY) game which might preempt Mets baseball. which is just stupid, but it happens.

Thanks Steve. D-Dad is busy on the 30th, but we are open so far on the 29th.

March 6th may be a conflict for us. March 13th definitely doesn't work for us.

Ceetar Dec 28 2010 05:29 PM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |

Why yes, you can take the trusty 7 train to woodside and transfer! Actually, you could probably transfer at Citi Field were it a game day and the trains stopped. Or Flushing Main. (Or at the new east side LIRR access at GCP, just transfer there from the second avenue subway right? :-)(\) Not sure what I can and cannot do personally, I do know the 20th is bad, due to flying back from Port St. Lucie that day.
|
Kong76 Dec 28 2010 05:40 PM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |

Never had a reason to take the train to Long Island, ya know, with the traffic being so fluid and uncongested! (why does Firefox spell check not like uncongested?)
|
DocTee Dec 28 2010 05:43 PM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
March 20 will most assuredly be a NCAA men's basketball weekend. Either first- or second-round game, which will definitely take precedence on any Sports Bar television.

Presuming workable weather/babyhealth/that I won't be attempting to finagle tickets to Dallas/the game because the Jets have made it to the SuperBowl, Virgil's on the 29th seems workable.

What time on the 29th....during the day-ish?, I would like to go and bring Lorcan...especially if some other kids are going to be there.

Oh, that's no good. If Artie doesn't have her late-morning Maker's Mark, then naptime's fouled.

1/29 is a no go for me - my hiking club has a board meeting that day.
Or, as we Jerseyites like to call it, "the butt end of nowhere." But I'm good for a road trip any weekend in March - see you then at Strawberry's.
|
Fman99 Dec 30 2010 08:21 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |

You've got it all backwards. The real reason I have kids is that I was trying to justify more naps in my life.

Sez the guy who loses all his friends once they have children.
|
seawolf17 Dec 30 2010 08:46 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
Out for 1/29, in for March. I'll nominate 3/13, as it's nice and close to my birthday, for Darryl's. Less likely to conflict with squatters looking for college basketball action. I'll volunteer to coordinate the reservation as well, unless JCL is already on it.
|
G-Fafif Dec 30 2010 02:38 PM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
March sounds good if largely unknowable from here. January's a maybe. And what else has Darryl got to do anyway?
|
Kong76 Dec 30 2010 06:10 PM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
|
Thanks, sea ... coordinators are always welcome. I'll figure a roll call when 1/7 approaches for the 1/29 date. I'm good for 3/13 ... as good as anyone can be 2 1/2 months in advance. Thanks for not picking the 3/6 ... my pedicure girl has a rigid schedule through June already.

Well, not 4 nothing but the Official Winter Meetings are March 13 at Strawberry's. This double event thread is bound to confuse.

Which meeting is it we toss Jeets out of a large building? That was fun last year, never saw anyone bounce like that.
|
SteveJRogers Jan 11 2011 07:09 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |

I'm all for throwing a certain 'Pooler who hasn't posted in a while from the South West out a large building to see if he can bounce!
|
SteveJRogers Jan 11 2011 07:13 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
Come to think of it, can we toss Ollie from a tall building?
|
Benjamin Grimm Jan 11 2011 07:16 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
What happened in Tuscon the other day makes me wonder if it's inevitable that some crazed fan won't some day try to assassinate an unpopular local athlete. The sports rhetoric on the Internet and on the radio (and in the ballpark) can be every bit as bad, if not worse, as what we get from Washington.
|
SteveJRogers Jan 11 2011 07:30 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
Geez, way to turn that around Ben!
|
Edgy DC Jan 11 2011 07:46 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
No, but in trying to look at the broad effect should mean looking beyond a single case.
|
Benjamin Grimm Jan 11 2011 07:50 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
Also, when everyone sounds as crazy as you are (even if they really aren't) it can validate your feelings and make your insane actions seem more reasonable. And that can be the tipping point between thoughts and action.
|
Edgy DC Jan 11 2011 08:01 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
Yeah, that's a pretty solid way of putting it.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jan 11 2011 10:40 AM Re: CPF Annual Winter Meetings |
Talking up my ideas to put Ollie Perez to work outside of a pitching context doesn't amp up the coarseness-level, does it? (See: "Ollie Rides a _____")
