Got a nice near seven foot tree and decorating is proving a challenge , we have 300 lights on it as is but it looks like it could do with more than twice that......what's your rule of thumb on that?....do you mix colors?....the 300 that are on it are red.....except it's not a pure red and kind of sucks......

Help , save our tree.

Not that I decorate myself. But in checking out the decorations in the 'hood, I always prefer the multi-colored trees.

I find it takes a REALLY nice tree to carry off a white-light-only (or blue-light-only, if you're sporty and/or frigid) display.

We've got two small potted numbers, leaving the big trees/traditionally splendid decor for our respective moms' houses (where we'll be spending most of the holiday week, anyway). We did rim our front windows with lights-- it's a nice effect indoors and out, we find, and makes even that 2 a.m. bathroom visit feel all Christmassy.

Just reading only that a rule of thumb is at least 100 lights per foot of tree, ideally 150 is better.....fucks sake......looks like I need at least three more boxes.....

I help haul the artificial tree up from the basement and then leave it to the wife and kids (who enjoy this stuff) to do the rest, other than the four ornaments that are set aside for me to hang. I have no input into the process, nor do I want any!

Re: Christmas Trees and Decorations

i think tonight for minimm's birthday, i'll be lighting the tree. i think we've got over 700 lights for a 7' tree, and i jam 'em in there pretty good.

i'm not sure how much attention teh tree will garner. i'm holding off on ornaments until i get a good feel for it, and even then, nothing fragile is going on it, i don't think...

We have an 8' artificial tree with 1200 white lights on it. We have a smaller 4' artificial tree with 400 multicolored lights (Mrs. Doc & my first tree) in the window of an upstairs balcony. I help decorate the main tree and the little one is left to the kids who seem to get a kick out of making it their very own.

Re: Christmas Trees and Decorations

We're finally getting our tree up this weekend. being away sets us seriously behind, but we're not complaining in the least.

Usually, one carefully placed ornament should do it:

Re: Christmas Trees and Decorations

Light blue seems to be an oddly popular light color this year.

On the way home I saw a house with white lights and red bows that I thought was very appealing. Also another with white/red/white/red, etc lights.

We hauled in the live tree (root ball and all) this weekend. It's comfortably set up in front of our bay window and decorated with our Mets, Star Trek and 'places we've been to' ornaments. Best part is the fresh pine smell as you walk in the house!
