What did you all get this year for gifts? I got a new Nook (WiFi only), Wii Party, an iPhone speaker dock for the deck and a pile of running swag.

It seems like forever ago, but for Chanukah I got a nice two-toned gold earrings/bracelet set. Also Seasons One and Two of The Office. And the kids, who know I love candles, gave me some really beautiful ones :)

Re: Loot

i got a nice camera bag/messenger bag thing that doesn't look too gay (i hope), a sweet nikon lens coffee cup, superman cufflinks, and a cashmere sweater.

from my mom, i got a stop sign for the garage that lights up when i've hit the desired spot. not that i'm a bad driver. but because i'm hard to shop for. folks, never be known as hard to shop for. but really, my hobbies aren't all that mysterious and vague. i'm a running, fathering, cooking, photographing mets fan. surely there's a hook in there for something. she got mrs.mm a running top and a mani-pedi gift certificate. and i also got a pair of golf-ball-finding sunglasses. i mean, fine. i suck at golf and lose lots of balls, but unless this thing can level forests and drain ponds, they're only of so much utility for the handful of times i might "golf" in a year. i don't golf. i walk around a park, swinging sticks at stationary balls, wondering in amazement to which direction they will take flight.

A deck of playing cards that says "Number One Dad" on the back of each card.

And some movie theater gift certificates. And that's about it! I've made an effort over the years to reduce gift-swapping as much as possible, and it's mostly worked.

Why do you want to heat hot water?
By definition it pretty much sounds to me like it's already there.

irish - Let me know how you like it.

I've just been using Picnik for quick and dirty editing - I'd be interested in hearing about the advantages of Photoshop.

I like it, I've been using photoshop elements 7 for two years. It can be a steep learning curve and takes time to learn, basically you need to learn about Layers , it's a powerful tool with a lot of features.....Scott Kelby who is one of the foremost experts on Photoshop reckons that the Elements line has about 90% of what the full blown Photoshop has.....meaning it's perfect for the hobbyist but powerful enough for most anyone....it's also an organizer for your images.

PSE9 adds some bells and whistles from PSE7/8....

Best Buy has it on sale now for $60...that's a great deal.....

You can download it as a trial version for 30 days from here.....

I would get some reading first then DL it and play with it to see if it's what you'd want.

Re: Loot

My 9-year-old nephew in Illinois is getting into baseball cards and loves to cruise the 10-cent bins at his local coin and card store. He appeared to clean out the bin finding cool old Mets for me. Some near cards, too! The ball is signed by Hal Lanier, who manages the local minor league team and was the Astros manager in 1986.

As far as Mets loot, I also got the Firestein book about Glavine and Mussina from my brother-in-law, swet Mets flannel lounge pants and a Shea book from my wife, a Shea Stadium sign and Mets car magnets (for the drive to Comerica Park this summer) from my parents.

My parents also gave me the gift card to go get new running shoes!

MK and his sister looked so much alike that I would sometimes show off a 7-year-old baby picture of her and people would think it was MK (until I pointed out the pink shorts ).

But, as you've seen, there's no shortage of pictures of my youngest child (or my middle one, for that matter).

Today my wife surprised me at lunch with a belated present of 4 tickets for the Duke vs. UNC-Greensboro game tomorrow night at the Greensboro Colosseum. Not expecting much of a game, as UNC-G is currently 0-11, but it should be a nice family outing. We'll have a nice family dinner before hopefully, enjoying a historic victory (#880) for Coach K. He should move past legendary UNC coach Dean Smith for second place on the all time wins list.
