LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jan 04 2011 10:49 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |

No, seriously. I'm pretty sure I'm losing to Seawolf in, like, three different matches. I've got, like, 7 going and am only ahead in 1.
Willets Point Jan 05 2011 09:17 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |
Beating Seawolf really does wonders for my rating as I've soared to 1522 and am at the top of the list of people I play SCRABBLE with. I expect that when I fall I will fall hard.
seawolf17 Jan 05 2011 09:40 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |

It's not pretty; he's bingoed three times in this game.
Ceetar Jan 05 2011 01:24 PM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |
A bought a word a day calendar, Scrabble themed. the answers are upside down in the bottom right corner though, so I have to be careful not to spoil them on myself.
seawolf17 Jan 06 2011 08:04 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |
I bought a few Scrabble puzzle books this fall; they've helped me immensely with learning new obscure words. No idea what the hell most of them mean, but I'm learning 'em.
Ceetar Jan 06 2011 08:05 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |
I just learn them by you beating me with them.
seawolf17 Jan 07 2011 11:37 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |
I finally beat Willets after losing at least three in a row. I was down 255-145 halfway through the game but stormed back, bingoing on ARBORIST (82) to start the rally and then bingoing on EXPRESS/SQUIRE (93) on my penultimate play to take the lead. 422-333 is your final.
Willets Point Jan 07 2011 11:39 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |
I took a screenshot of my Scrabble rating at 1543 because I expect that will be my peak. It's all downhill from here. Thanks for letting me beat you a couple of times, seawolf!

Oh, the air is thin up there my high-vocabulary friends.
The gulf between five and six is impressively daunting, and I'm beginning to think it's a difference of kind as much as degree. The players north of that ravine are playing a different game. Mercy.

Finishing the most frustrating game ever against 'Bucket. I had bingos on my rack at least 6-8 times with no place to hook them. Kept playing lesser words and getting another bingo on my rack and not being able to hook it anywhere. 'Bucket schooled me. I hate this game.

The rubber game (or just game 3 since we've already queued up game 4) of the Willets-Bucket series features the 10-letter word EQUALITIES built in two parts (he did EQUAL for 80, making 4 two-letter words along the way and tripling the Q twice) I followed by stretching it all the way to the double-word with the -ITIES suffix, collecting 40 points.

Chad Ochoseis Mar 02 2011 07:31 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |

STRAINT is good, I think. For someone who sucks, you're not bad. Close game we've got going on there. In a game with a non-CPFer, I've got BLURED?, which can be scrambled into something like a zillion bingos, none of which seem to have a home on the board.
Ceetar Mar 02 2011 07:34 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |
Yeah, our game isn't bad. Sometimes things click, or it just happens that I get a favorable set of tiles. Maybe I'm like a hitter that can smash a fastball, but can't hit much else? for instance, it's now March and I think I've figured out the bingo on the calendar only once or twice of the roughly 20 there have been. I saw STRAINT, wasn't sure that was actually a word though. I'll check next time i load scrabble. the calendar says teh word was TRANSIT though.

I wonder if Scrabble would be better without these obscure latin-root words.
seawolf17 Mar 02 2011 08:20 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |
Didn't see it. Plus, I only had one vowel left -- the I -- with a bunch of high-value consonants. I needed to get some of those off my rack to avoid getting stuck with them in a close game, especially the V, which is the worst letter in the history of written language (except for its use in the word VAV) and hold my I for my last play.

Willets Point Mar 04 2011 08:00 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |

I didn't have it in my rack. Getting the points from your tiles was what put us even. LOWN was a desperation move and I was just as surprised as you when it went through. I just looked it up in the SCRABBLE dictionary which defines it as "peaceful."

The new word list has been released. Though I haven't seen a list of the additions, second-hand sources say it includes THANG, INNIT, a handful of terms from Indian cookery, and drug slang. Supposedly, there's also a healthy dose of new Q words.
Willets Point May 11 2011 10:02 AM Re: Scrabble Babble 2011 |
