Meantime, here are the (embarassing, from one point of view) Scrabble standings as the calendar turns over, with Lunchbucket ascending and LeiterWagner falling back a bit. Congratulations to Seawolf for finishing the annum at the top of the standings in league play. That has to be good for some kind of award.

The rubber game (or just game 3 since we've already queued up game 4) of the Willets-Bucket series features the 10-letter word EQUALITIES built in two parts (he did EQUAL for 80, making 4 two-letter words along the way and tripling the Q twice) I followed by stretching it all the way to the double-word with the -ITIES suffix, collecting 40 points.

STRAINT is good, I think.

For someone who sucks, you're not bad. Close game we've got going on there.

In a game with a non-CPFer, I've got BLURED?, which can be scrambled into something like a zillion bingos, none of which seem to have a home on the board.

Yeah, our game isn't bad. Sometimes things click, or it just happens that I get a favorable set of tiles. Maybe I'm like a hitter that can smash a fastball, but can't hit much else?

for instance, it's now March and I think I've figured out the bingo on the calendar only once or twice of the roughly 20 there have been.

I saw STRAINT, wasn't sure that was actually a word though. I'll check next time i load scrabble. the calendar says teh word was TRANSIT though.

Didn't see it. Plus, I only had one vowel left -- the I -- with a bunch of high-value consonants. I needed to get some of those off my rack to avoid getting stuck with them in a close game, especially the V, which is the worst letter in the history of written language (except for its use in the word VAV) and hold my I for my last play.

I had a stretch (just before the holidays, I think) where I just went Scrabble-blind for a week-and-a-half; I ended up losing something like 12 matches consecutively/simultaneously to friends ranging in prowess from novice to 'Wolf-class.

Bucket usually either kicks the living piss out of me or it's a back-and-forth affair. This might be the only time I've ever beaten him by more than, say, 20.

There are others as well, but that's not only a pretty good team but no first or last names there are used more than once.

Re: Scrabble Babble 2011

WILLIE MAYS makes lots of all-star teams, but MAYS isn't good enough to be on the scrabble all-stars. You can put BOBBY BONDS in CF and substitute BILLY MARTIN for BOBBY COX on the coaching staff if you don't want to double your BOBBYs.

TORII
Reallly? Torii?

OE - I'm wrong and seawolf17 and FK are right...MAYS is good

It's also easy for the games to go on forever.

Sorry about that-- until we can get our home browsers right, I'm Scrabble-dark on nights and weekends.

Additionally, you'll find that things have gone a little HAYWIRE since last you checked. Boosh!

I seriously thought I had Edgy beat by at least two points even counting the tiles still on my rack, but he just beat me by four points. More proof that I suck at math. And SCRABBLE.

The new word list has been released. Though I haven't seen a list of the additions, second-hand sources say it includes THANG, INNIT, a handful of terms from Indian cookery, and drug slang. Supposedly, there's also a healthy dose of new Q words.

Probably named after the Chinese dynasty.

I think that just applies to the UK and Aussie dictionaries (so, Spitter, take note). North America uses a different word list.

Re: Scrabble Babble 2011

Seawolf 179
Marathon 147
Willets Point 137
Edgy DC 92

After days away from the board (jury duty) and with my delectable TWS row blocked I shuffle around my two-blank rack and end the game with

I
N
S
T
A
N
=#800000]C O C O A
E

Not much beyond the 50 point bonus, you think, what with the two blanks (one wasted over a TLS square) and the one-point tiles. But with the walkoff points...

Seawolf 179 - 11 (walkoff penalty) = 168
Marathon 147 - 4 (walkoff penalty) = 143
Willets Point 137 - 5 (walkoff penalty) = 132
Edgy DC 92 + 8 (INSTANCE) + 50 (7-letter bonus) + 20 (walkoff bonus) = 170
