Yes, but how do you explain the three Popular Mechanic subscriptions it ordered* and the two hours it spent on Lavalife?

*An actual LWFS drunk-and-alone thing, from freshman year of college. Probably the most innocuous one on the list, too, outside of "eat something microwaveable and pass out with hand in pants."

What they need to do is measure the exact breast enhancement/tip enhancement correlation and see how quickly you pay off the cost of the surgery. Frankly, if you're working at Denny's, it probably won't be cost effective over the long haul. If you're waitressing at Bada Bing, different story.

I was watching TV at my mother's home in Virginia. The first time I glance down and see the call is from KC's Cell and I'm curious what would prompt a call from the big guy. Well, you were obviously rockin' out, but I just couldn't identify the song. On the second call, when I was again greeted by music I had a pretty good idea your phone was "butt dialing" me. By the time the phone rang the third time, my wife started laughing and said, "KC?"
As I glanced at the phone I chuckled, "Well, sort of." Then after a brief sonic blast of music, your butt hung up on me.

It is always proper to return the call and leave a rambling voice mail.

I'm still getting a lot of spam, but the high percentage has become penis-related. All but a few of my spam messages have either the words "Penis", "Viagra", or "Enlargement" in the subject.

The one that creeps me out the most is "Penis Growth Sample." I know it means that they're offering a sample of something that will make penises grow, but it me it reads like they want to send me a piece of something that grew unexpectedly on somebody's penis. NOT a very appealing offer!

Didn't I hear something about one big spammer getting arrested? And he was responsible for a large percentage of it?

I barely notice though, gmail is pretty good with the filters.

Great googily moogiily.

I had a friend who was as brave as they come --- an Air Force colonel, veteran of three wars, who didn't suffer fools. I asked him once if he ever jumped out of a plane.

He answered, "You know, after a career in the Air Force, I figured it was my turn. I reviewed my training, went up, and strapped my chute on. I'm peering out the hatch and then something hits me. I ask the pilot if the engiine is in good shape. He says it is, and I ask him about the hydraulics, the landing gear. All the systems are jake. So I ask him, 'Why the hell would I want to jump out of a plane that's in perfect working order? I'm all trained, so if there was a problem, I'd be jumping.' He didnt' have an answer, so I strapped myself back into the seat, enjoyed a nice flight, and never gave it another minute's thought."

There's a couple chutes as I understand, so the chances of both of em not working and me actually going splat are probably pretty low. It's this outfit near the coast, so you get to see the ocean as you scream towards earth at 120mph and then float all gentle like back to earth.

I'd warn them off Generation K, and instead feed them the guys from that (and other) drafts that would actually make an impact. Also, outbid or whatever the Yankees for Rivera (February 17, 1990: Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent. )

This is the first pack of cards I've opened since I bought an old 1988 pack at Economy Candy 4 years ago.

I do kinda like the nostalgia of it all. They also had '90 and '88 packs. I think I saw a 2007 too. i may go back and buy them, it was a random vending machine at an A&P in Little Falls, NJ.

A&P owns Waldbaums and bought Pathmark. The FTC made them sell some of the stores to King Kullen to maintain competitive standards in some areas.

The Pathmark stores since transferred to King Kullen all closed. A&P filed for Chapter 11 last month in part because the debt they took on to buy Pathmark.

This is almost as confusing as trying to remember the chain of bank name changes and acquisitions. I remember once I happened to check my payee list on my online banking and noticed I was paying my credit card to the wrong/old bank name, with the wrong account number, in the wrong city/state. Of course, the payments still got to where they were supposed to go.

The Daily News apparently is discontinuing The Slammer, its stupid weekly column on Pro Wrestling that I read without fail every Friday.

They usually ran it on the same page as the Outdoors column, the last page of the Sports from the front of the section or the first sports page you get to if you're like me and read it back to front. It was rarely more than a couple hundred words, loaded with bad jokes about Aunt Thelma and news I didn't want to know, but it always reminded me it was Friday.

Maybe this should be in the Dead Thread. RIP, Slammy.

As a pure time wasting exercise I will go to Wikipedia and pick a subject in my head , mostly Ireland and hit the random article until I find an article with Ireland in it, usually takes ten minutes give or take, gotta be some science behind it.

Today I hit on this

be careful because if you go to fast hitting the back button doesn't bring you back to the random article you just passed ,a quirk I have noticed.

Heard on the news this morning that New York City has plowed enough snow to fill CitiField 4200 times. So I had some thoughts.

1) Who the @#$% thinks of this stuff?
2) Why Citifield, when the Bedpan in the Bronx is actually an enclosed building that would retain the snow better? (probable answer-the Bedpan is bigger so the number of times it could be filled is less, thereby giving a less impressive total).
3) Who's calculating how much snow they've moved and don't they have something better to do? Isn't there a traffic light blinking in Staten Island they could fix or something?
4) If the Wilpons gave them the CitiField volume number, was it vastly inflated without their knowledge?
5) If we could fill Citifield with snow 4200 times, can we make sure Omar's on the bottom?

The National Christmas Tree in DC blew over today. While this is a minor tragedy, what's interesting was that there's another tree already identified and ready to be planted in its place.

A normal reaction would be "Oh $#!+, the tree blew down! Now what?" But they already had a succession plan in place, a tree that's been growing for years, no doubt in an undisclosed location outside the Beltway, just waiting, waiting, waiting for its chance. And with its move, now some 5-year-old Colorado blue spruce is being tapped on the shoulder, getting the call to move up to Number Two, ready to be replanted on a moment's notice. And waiting.

Admittedly, I'm a fan of targeted vulgarity. But I'm not above a delightfully absurd bowdlerization or two-- some of my favorite hip-hop and rock moments were from radio- and TV-live-performance edits of some raunchy stuff.

But, mon frere, it's a FAR better song with the obscenities in. I'd go so far as to say that "cleanliness" in this case is contrary to the point of the whole bit.

On Sunday's I leave out the recycling with the regular garbage, without fail an old Asian lady or a young Mexican fella comes around the street and takes whatever bottles they can salvage , they always leave the bags back tidy and all that, no problems. I just left the garbage out and was looking out the window and saw this older white guy , well dressed mid 50's.......after he filled his bag he then crossed the street and opened the trunk of a 7 series BMW , looked new too and drove away.....wow

Maybe he's the Asian lady's vindictive ex-husband.

Stephanie's warm and decent and smart and funny and pretty, with lips that keep giving. And she's somebody you'd be proud to introduce to your mother. If she's been over-exposed, she's a victim of her own success and America's inability to stop watching TV. For her efforts, she gets to Google her name and read vicious online backlash and to see herself photoshopped into dirty poses. (Well, she gets money, too, but that's after years and years of very little.)

Be kind to her. She only wants to entertain.

The Legal Actions section of the Cracker Barrel Wikipedia entry is entertaining:

Legal actionsCracker Barrel has been embroiled in controversy through the years, first with gay rights groups and then with claims of racial discrimination and sexual harassment.

Policy of discrimination against LGBT employeesIn 1991, Cracker Barrel instituted a policy requiring employees to display "normal heterosexual values which have been the foundation of families in our society which the company has traditional sought to uphold"[citation needed]. The company refused to change their policy in the face of protest demonstrations by gay rights groups. After ten years of proposals by the New York City Employees Retirement System, a major shareholder, the company's shareholders voted 58% in 2002 in favor of rescinding the policy. The board of directors added sexual orientation to the company's nondiscrimination policy.[3]

Nonetheless, Cracker Barrel, along with Archer Daniels Midland and Nestle Purina Pet Care, achieved the lowest score (15 out of 100) of all rated food and beverage companies in the Human Rights Campaign's 2008 Corporate Equality Index, a measure of gay and lesbian workplace equality.[4] Their score for 2011 had improved to a 55.

Complaints of pattern of alleged racial discrimination against guestsIn the early 2000s and again in 2006, Cracker Barrel faced accusations including a pattern of racial discrimination in its treatment of guests. After national press attention to these accusations, the company announced explicit policies intended to address the charges, and paid $2 million for race and sexual harassment at three Illinois restaurants.[5] Stores now display a sign in their front foyer clarifying this policy, as has become the policy after a similar incident involving Denny's restaurants.[6]

Alleged unlawful political campaign contributionsCracker Barrel was among eight companies indicted and accused of making alleged illegal corporate campaign contributions to the Texans for a Republican Majority political action committee (TRMPAC), started by former U.S. Representative Tom DeLay, allegations that some considered unfair.[7][8] Less than five months later, however, all charges against Cracker Barrel were dropped.[citation needed]

Food scareIn May 2007, Cracker Barrel temporarily removed hamburgers from its menu at many of its locations after a patron ate a metal fragment resembling part of a razor blade in her hamburger at a restaurant in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.[9]

Most of American music was made by people who never had any idea it would be listened to beyond the moment, and much of it will live forever. Somewhere around 1970 that changed. Every pop band thought they were making music for posterity, and most of it isn't.

Oh, no. Brooklyn Burger is decent ground chuck-and-sirloin (probably something like 75:25). Shake Shack is either sirloin-chuck-brisket or brisket-chuck-short-rib-- depending on which reverse-engineered recipe you buy-- and double-ground. Plus, it's cooked in less oil than the Citi-regular burgers, hence the nice flat crust on both sides. Also, Shack Sauce.

Goddammit. I just made myself hungry.

The commercial for the Trojan vibrator makes me nuts.

Here's this woman at her bridal shower, and she receives three of these vibrators, from women whose hair is blown back. Then she comes home and shows the loot to her overly enthusiastic fiance.

First of all, I don't know of any woman who has a realistic need for more than one of them. Maybe I'm missing something, but one should be plenty.

My theory on the backstory - every one of those women at the bridal shower has slept with the fiance, and they all know he's horrible in bed. This bride-to-be NEEDS a lifetime's worth of vibrators, and everyone in that room knows it. To make things worse, rather than being insulted, the fiance is actually relieved to be off the hook - his new bride will take care of her own needs and he's not even going to have to pretend to try.

None of this entices me to want the product.

Re: Apropos of nothing thread 2011

I attended a continuing education conference yesterday in Raleigh. When it let out around 3:30 yesterday afternoon, I was tired and not looking forward to the hour drive home by myself. To make matters worse, it was starting to rain and the wind was howling as I ran across the parking lot to my car. Just a few minutes into the drive home, the radio station cut in during the middle of a song for a severe weather announcement. It stated there were "several tornadoes on the ground" in the vicinity. As they started listing the locations of the numerous tornadoes, I started plotting their positions relative to mine. I was on the I-540 bypass north of Raleigh heading east and multiple tornadoes were south of Raleigh and reportedly moving northeastward at 45-50 mph. I quickly figured that some of the twisters and I were converging on the same general area to the north/northeast of Raleigh. I didn't like the option of getting off the road to seek shelter in an area I was unfamiliar with, so I decided to watch for "funnel clouds" while trying to get out of the area as quickly as possible. Though it was still very dark and windy, the rain had reduced to a mild drizzle, so I was able to cruise along while listening to the minute by minute reports of the positions and projected paths of numerous tornadoes. I eventually heard where one or two of the twisters crossed I-540 heading to the north of Raleigh, but it was fortunately 10-20 minutes behind me at that time. I drove the rest of the way home with my heart racing. I got home in time to prepare for a tornado that was tearing through Wilson, NC and projected to hit our city in 20-25 minutes. Fortunately for us, the tornado past a few miles west of our city. It was a nerve racking and harrowing 2-3 hours yesterday afternoon.

In all, the storm system spawned 62 confirmed tornadoes in 20 counties of eastern North Carolina over a few hours time. Fortunately, the death toll was rather low in view of all the destruction left in the wake of the storm. My thoughts and prayers go out to the many families that were impacted by this horrific storm.

i was intrigued and finally found it the other day.

not good.

too much vanilla, not enough swirl/cluster. The clusters were too frozen, and while you get some of the saltiness in there, the clusters are all frozen chunks of fudge and not at all like a potato chip. chocolate covered potato chips are great, and I imagine freshly mixing them in would be delicious, but deeply frozen, they were disappointing. And they were generally large chunks and not prevenant in the pint, so most bites didn't have them.

The pre-packaged salty-sweet thing is tricky to pull off. Kettle corn works, I suppose, but with everything else-- especially when you're mixing items from two different temperature ranges-- you're better off dipping your own fries in your shake, or chocolate-ing up your chicken.

The [u:1s58m3ug]Original[/u:1s58m3ug] Hummer was the one barely distinguished from the military version that inspired it and was mostly driven by the likes of Ahrnold the Guvernator as a display of true conspicuous consumption and/or over-the-top macho preening.
The 'H2' was a toned-down version of that which was mass-produced for the consumer market and probably the most common one seen. It was still a monster SUV but it didn't require a pole-vault to get in so 120 lb women could now drive a 7,000 lb "car" and not feel like they enlisted.
The 'H3' was smaller still and probably would have been more popular except it came out right around the time the bottom started to fall out of the large SUV market.

Back in my radio days I spent a day driving around Rochester with the Pizza Hut Hummer. They were promoting their new pizza, and we bounced around the city, stopping to pick up ten pizzas and then going to parks, the community college, the mall, just handing out free pizza, then restocking and heading back out. It was actually quite a lot of fun, even if it did sour me from Pizza Hut forever.

Apparently I have to sign for it yesterday. disappointing, obviously I'm not home. Figured I could sign the thing, tell them to leave it, and have it today. No big deal right? This is how UPS and Fedex work right? Apparently not the post office. And yes, I probably could've read the fine print somewhere, but I didn't. So I get home today, no package, and my notice is gone. lovely. Apparently all they do is pick up the notice see what I mark, and then act on it in up to 2 delivery days. Ugh.

Last night, I was in a car with a mate of mine at the wheel when all of a sudden shower hits in the bitter cold. My mate drove through a stop sign on what we thought was an empty road, but from somewhere a cop emerges and pulls us over.

Police officer: Why did you drive through the stop sign?

My mate: So I can watch you get drenched in the pouring rain.

And to follow up on a _different_ issue.. *Sigh*

I left a note for the post office to 'leave the package' when they didn't deliver my wedding album. fine. confusing, but they came back and delivered it on Friday. Sometime shortly after, and I don't know if these were related issues or not, we stopped getting mail. at first we're like "Oh, we missed a day, no big deal. it happens, we're not that popular anyway" but then it started adding up, to the point that we were wwondering when a package we actually ordered was supposed to be here, only to find that fedex delivered it to the post office that claims it delivered it to us. confusing.

So I finally call fedex, who tells me to call the post office, who tell me "we'll look into it". So I give them my number. Gave them my apartment number instead of my cell for whatever reason. Today I switched over to Fios. Should be no problem, they're supposed to port the line. Nope. Did not port the line, randomly assigned me a new number. bastards. That was easy enough to fix (After 20 minutes on hold) but it won't take effect until MOnday. And of course the post office called today, to the line I can't answer. (The only reason I know is because apparently they haven't quite shut down my optimum account yet, as it just sent me a voice mail, 3 hours after I called to disconnect and an hour after I returned the boxes to the store) The post office claims my mail is being held? wtf for? I'm confused now, and of course post office is already closed today. (I suspected this was going to be the problem, and was going to go there, but it closed before the fios guy left) bleh. so now I probably have a giant box worth of credit card advertisements waiting for me at the post office.

oh, and this random fountain I got on freecycle isn't working. so there.

rant over.

IIRC, some other folks here have them. Are yours out yet?

Our two Rose of Sharon plants started blooming about a month ago. Still going strong. The three Crepe myrtle trees in the yard are in full bloom, as well as my 5 gardenia bushes. The fragrance of the Gardenia flowers is one of my favorite scents. The 3 Oleander tress have been blooming since late May and will hopefully continue to do so through late August. I landscaped our yard so that there is something flowering virtually every month of the year.

I have a couple of blossoms but not full bloom yet. When my daughter was born August 4, 1983, my Rose of Sharon bushes at our house in Lock Haven were in full bloom, so when mine our out I always think of that day.

So Rupert Murdoch just got the walk-off-hit treatment while testifying before the British Parliament.

The hearing was interrupted when it appeared that someone tried to strike Murdoch, perhaps with shaving cream.

The crowd gasped, and his son James Murdoch -- who was sitting next to him at the witness table -- leaped to his father's defense. Rupert Murdoch's wife, Wendi Deng, who was sitting behind the aging mogul, jumped up and reached out to slap the offender.

I have to say, I'm more than a little big staggered by this witch hunt that has erupted from this scandal and has somehow been sensationalized to the point where folks are going after the government themselves. British tabloids peddle slime and behave reprehensively trying to get more of it. There's nothing new there. If you don't like it, don't try to take down the government, but stop buying the trash yourself.

You can humiliate Murdoch, weaken Cameron, but the newstands won't look all that different Monday morning.

Wow, when it comes to PED's in baseball Edgy's all like "Every single player from the guy who used an upper once in a minor league game to the guy who shot up every day of his entire career is equally guilty and needs to be punished to the full extent" but now he's suddenly relativistic.

Yeah, another tabloid-owning scumbag is going to pop up but that doesn't change the fact that Murdoch is evil and needs to be taken down, put out of business, and locked up in prison. "Other people do the same thing" just doesn't cut it for the level of wrongdoing committed by someone who has accumulated vast amounts of power and influence.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2011 11:54 AM
Re: Apropos of nothing thread 2011

I don't know if that represents my position on PEDs at all at all.

Nor would I describe my position on sleezy media as relativistic.

"Other people do the same thing" is not anything I wrote. And it's not likely that other people will pop up to exploit the market void left behind by News of the World. It's more likely that Murdoch's other outlets will absorb the old readership.

Today was the fifth straight day with temperatures of 100 or more. To add to the discomfort, one of our air conditioning units was struck by lightning last night. So it's currently a sweltering 88 degrees in the bedrooms and upstairs bathrooms. Needless to say, the family is living downstairs part of the house where there is functioning air conditioning and ceiling fans. At least we are expected to get a break in the heat tomorrow as the forecast is for a high of only 94 degrees.

I spent the afternoon washing and waxing my car, then mowed the lawn. I think I sweated enough to make up for opting not to run today.

That's the main problem. I could deal with moving, it'd be fun even, but at the very least I think I have to be at least driving distance to an NL park to be able to watch 3 Mets games a year live.

On the other hand, an AL city provides a team to root for for like 99.5% of all games without conflicting with rooting for the Mets.

I thought that way too. When I relocated from New York to Pennsylvania, the proximity of the Phillies was a definite factor. I figured I'd still be able to go to a bunch of Mets games when they played the Phillies.

It didn't turn out that way. In 22 years, I probably went to the Vet about five times, and the Citizens Bank Park two or three times.

You can get the MLB Extra Innings package, make an annual jaunt to SF, LA, or SD, (and NY too, if you like) and you'll be fine.

Ordered a 2012 Mini Cooper Hardtop on October 8th, what's cool here is that if you don't buy one off the Lot you sit down with the sales guy, sorry Motoring Assistant and build it, all manner of options anD such....but then you have to wait as the car gets built at the plant in Oxford England and takes up to 5 weeks from the order date. Another cool thing though is you can track each step in the process, "your car is waiting for production", your car is in the paint shop", right now she is en route, was loaded on a Vessel yesterday in Southampton, and yes I can track the ship, once they give you the Vin # I was able to find out what ship it was going on and it is scheduled for the port of NY on November 2nd. She bought them, ten live ones (would a lizard eat dead ones? I think not) and was only hoping they wouldn't get out of the bag during the 30 mile drive. They didn't. (phew!)

I've had a few of those cramps recently, and I seem to have figured out a way to deal with them that works, at least for me.

In the past my instinct would be to try to flex out the cramp but it occurred to me that doing so may have been making it worse. Now when I get one of those I just immediately let my leg go limp, and the pain and the cramping seems to go away a lot quicker.

Now, I've only tried this method twice, so the sample size is small, but so far so good.

we're talking about the 'charlie horse' cramp thingy? I sometimes get them in the summer when I'm sleeping with the air conditioner on, and stretch too hard waking up or moving around. I figure it's similar to trying to exercise in the cold without warming up. It feels like my calf muscle is turning sideways, but yeah the 'go limp' thing works for me. More specifically, It usually cramps when I'm stretching/pointing my foot, so I promptly unpoint it. I've train my instinctual reaction to this enough that most of the time I barely feel it later. Otherwise it feels sore for two days.

i get those a lot. well, more when i run more. i concur on the potassium as a possible factor. dehydration another possibility.

i usually solve them first by cursing quietly and repeatedly in the hopes that quality is made up for in quantity, and that the lower volume wakes not mrs.mm.

then i try to stand on it, to get it to unlock. i used not to do that, just trying to wait it out. that took forever and the cramp would always come back as soon as i moved my foot the wrong way. the standing trick seems to resolve that. i think i read that one here...?

Eyebrow hair, not hairs.
As long as this is a single act of defiance and not the beginnings of a mass 'Occupy Forehead' movement, I'm gonna let it slide and see where this goes.

Your eyebrows are few and far between?

Most people only have two; you can't have much fewer than that. But what I'm really wondering is how far apart they are. Are they aligned with your eyes? Are your eyes abnormally far apart? Generally they're positioned above the nose, one on each side.

I think--and I don't have the slip with me any longer--it had to do with "doing the right thing" plus his experiences after catching the ball. But at least he learned his lesson. After getting kicked off a plane for failing to follow the crew's instructions (and reportedly cursing and demeaning them on top of it) and then Tweeting about how it was all the crew's fault (what, no coffee maker to blame?) he decided to quit Tweeting ... and instead went to The Huffington Post to continue his rant.

Right, even if it was the use of the phone that caused the tantrum.

And my larger point wasn't anti-Baldwin so much as it seems when celebs get bad pub for: in Baldwin's case, getting kicked off a plane and cursing people out in public and then tweeting how it was all someone else's fault; or with others it's public drunkenness or getting caught on-mike saying something they regret and then compounding things by tweeting about it; their first act of reforming themselves isn't to apologize for and cut out the bad behavior that got them into trouble in the first place but to close their Twitter account.

Yeah, that'll solve things.

Now that I actually wanna win I'm sure to blow it.

Best of luck, or continued luck it sounds like. Did NFL fantasy once or more and hated it, it seemed overly complicated and required a lot of attention paid to it.

Still going right?

yup. He's up to 8 days and over 200k. Watched with him live last Wednesday, which was interesting.

Last night he played against some real morons. It was a difficult night, but they really bungled it. But he played real conservative even up like 14k at Final Jeopardy and didn't bet anything on "Presidential Inaugurations" and ended up being the only one to get it right.

Yeah, the guy in the middle last night started out pretty well, then faltered. The guy on the right was invisible for a while, heated up a bit, fished for and found a daily double, then blew it by going for a true daily double.
Double Jeopardy categories were tough last night.

as soon as I saw him fishing for the daily double I knew Jason had won again, because he'd mentioned that guy at dinner last week.

Also he mentioned that one of his 'get to know you' stories was actually going to reference my wife, (Involved a middle of the night lift he gave her to a barn to check on a pregnant cow) but was similar to a story told by someone the week before so they nixed it.

It seems to me that one "problem" with winning a bunch in a row is that you'd start to run out of those amusing anecdotes during interview time.
How many folks do you suppose just make-up those stories? I think I would.

This just screams out for its own non-baseball thread.

At the parking garage at MFY III for the Pinstripe Bowl, I had to make D-Dad move the car because there was dog poop at our first parking space.

Seriously - there was dog poop in the parking garage.

Well, duh! What do you expect when you don't pay for premium parking spaces?

Trust me - we overpaid a lot for the dog poop spot!

A headline is supposed to get you to read the story.
This one did.
