Bradley Mark Emaus
Wifey: None known. Last Word: Most accounts have him as being as good a bet as any to be the primary New York secondbaseman in 2011, or perhaps part of a platoon with Daniel Murphy. But he could perhaps as easily end up on a fast boat back to his former organizaiton. What do you expect of Brad Emaus in 2011?

If we got him from Toronto why would we give him back to the Orioles?, seeing if we are paying attention and actually read your posts?

The Audobon Society has very specific rules about these things.

No, I just have a bit of a fever an amn't making much sense. Toronto is correct.

Benjamin Grimm Jan 16 2011 01:07 PM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
My prediction: He'll stick on the roster for the whole season, thereby becoming permanent Mets property. He'll start 60 games at second base, and he'll hit .250.

metirish Jan 16 2011 01:12 PM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
Mu prediction id that he will emerge as the everyday 2nd baseman and will look a steal hitting .282 with 12 home runs and 62 rbi....he will steal 14 bases.

If Emaus sticks as a backup, who backs up Reyes, Tejada?

Hu's on second... and short.

Benjamin Grimm Jan 17 2011 04:19 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
Shouldn't it have been "Who's At First?" Who's On First seems to imply a baserunner, not a fielder. Perhaps the syntax was different back in the days of Bud and Lou.

401 PAs, .269/.367/.432, 12 HRs, 25 2B, 51 RBI, 69 R, 9 SB/3 CS, iffy defense, new fan favorite

I expect him to get offered back to Toronto, but them decline and he ends up in Buffalo.
|
smg58 Jan 17 2011 07:17 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
He'll stick unless the Mets find three better mid-infield options between now and the end of the season. I'll go with a .260/.360/.430 line over 500 ABs, with 8 HRs and 65 RBI.

TransMonk Jan 17 2011 07:26 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
I have no expectations for Brad. My hope is that he doesn't muck anything up.

If he doesn't stick with the Mets in the majors, he doesn't stick with the Mets-- he doesn't come back to our system. If the Jays decline, I wager, any one of a number of teams would be happy to take a second baseman with some power and apparently-superlative patience.

Him being exposed to the 'Rule 5' draft in the first place caused as much WTF? head-scratching among those who follow this kind of stuff as any player this year so I can't see him being refused by Toronto or by any other for that matter if the Mets try to send him down. So, seeing as how I have little faith that Castillo will survive the spring as a Met and about as much in Muffy being able to hack the position defensively, I expect him to stick around all season with an OK BA (.260-ish), decent on-base skills (.335), and good-for-2B punch (.430-ish SLG) over say 365 ABs

I hope he does well. Then the people in Kalamazoo -- less than an hour from me -- can finally stop talking about the other guy who lived there for a while.

Edgy MD Jan 17 2011 08:25 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
I'm not sure, but as the author of the new Brad Emaus Wikipedia article, I think he spent more of his formative years in the south, and so would be more likely claimed as a Georgia product.

attgig Jan 17 2011 09:10 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
stays with the mets being the backup IF'er. He'll get occasional starts at 2b but mostly be used in late inning defensive replacement/double switch situations. He'll stick in flushing through the whole year.

He'd be an odd choice for defensive replacement-- it's one of the shakier parts of his game, supposedly.
According to eyeballs/metrics that have seen more than I have, he's better than Turner at the keystone, but not quite as good as Castillo or Tejada.

interesting. I missed that. well then, maybe he doesn't even make it... I wonder/worry about daniel murphy's defense considering he had only a few months at 2b....

Edgy MD Jan 17 2011 09:58 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
I wouldn't worry too much. Hu can probably cover them in late and close situations also.

Benjamin Grimm Jan 18 2011 06:57 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
Emaus' name almost means "Let's Go" in Latin. (Remembering the classic Mets banner that read "Eamus Metropolitae")

Eamus, Emaus!

I like this thing I've been doing on these threads where I dig up a line from an actual season as a plug-in. I was doing this mostly so as to not suggest a mathematically impossible line (like, I'd have no idea offhand how many XBHs in how many PAs translates to X slugging pct., so I wouldn't wanna suggest it and look foolish), but I kinda like having looked up these comps now because, by cheating, I've actually gotten to think more than I normally would for a question like this.

This was kinda the first thing I thought-- Lil' Uggla/Big, Uninjured Havens-- when I saw the scouting report on him.

Good going, Ben Berkon of nascent eMet presence Rising Apple-- an exclusive interview with young Mr. Emaus, just prior to Spring Training. He's already got his trap-question-platitude-spouting at big-league level:

John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 08 2011 11:36 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
I wonder if he'll say he'll do whatever he has to do to make the team, and that means staying within himself and not trying to do too much?

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Feb 08 2011 11:45 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
Good Lord willing.

Frayed Knot Feb 08 2011 01:54 PM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
I bet he's already in the best shape of his life.

Willets Point Feb 24 2011 08:33 AM Re: Expectations of Eleven: Brad Emaus |
The Mets will try several options at second base including various platoon combinations until Brad is revealed as the clear everyday starter for the position. The end of the year video will document this process as "The Road to Emaus."
