"You've Gotta Have Heart"

Or so Edward Emil Kranepool sang on this record:
Two probs there. Firstly, he's brandishing the fallacy of equating competition in offseason wheeling and dealign with competition on the field. Secondly, he's playing the "in this market" card. Boo.
Certainly.
Damn, 'Pool, that's cold. Why waste time changing channels? Why not just stick with the same game and switch your allegiance whenever the lead changes?
Well, on that first part, I hear you, but to be a little literal about it, there are a lot of DePastinos out there who might take issue (to say nothing of Ron Hodges). On the second part, sure, but if you know the answer better than Alderson, I'd like to hear it. Sometimes when Kranepool has opined on how the team should be run in the past, I got the idea that he was still (in a perhaps deluded sense) angling for a piece of the action. Or at least trying to stay relevant. Other times, I just get the idea that he's turnnig into the most crotchedy old poop.

By the way, I've had that LP since about 1989 and I'm only now seeing that "KALVIN KOONCE" has his name misspelled. Took about 20 seconds to figure out who "Al Walker" was also.

Could you imagine if Ed won the race to buy the Mets from the Paysons?

He was putting together a team of investors. I'm not sure if they got their bid in. He envisioned himself on the talent procurement side, but it would have been difficult staying engaged while bailing out whenever the lead was lost.

I think he was part of a group considered to be a longshot. OTOH, the Wilpon-Doubleday group kinda snuck up on the field too.

I remember thinking it was going to be Nixon buddy Robert Abplanalp. (What a great name! Robert!)

I guess he can get away with such nonsense because he's Ed freaking Kranepool.

And yet, we have "Joe" Pignatano and "Al" Walker. If you're going to get silly with formal names, why stop at "L. Nolan Ryan"? Why not swing for the fences with "Lynn"?

They swung for the fences with Cal Koonce and went with Kalvin Koonce.....
