...and get there fast. Fortunately, you look in your garage to find these famous cars all at your disposal. Which is your ride? And yes, chicks will definitely be watching.

Starsky's Gran Torino

The General Lee

Doc Brown's Delorean (you can't time travel, that's cheating)

KITT. Chest hair not included.

Cameron's dad's Ferrari. (Note: Best chance of landing you Mia Sara)

Magnum's Ferrari (again, you're responsible for your own chest hair)

Re: You have to get there...

Magnum's Ferrari was wrecked more times than David Wells.

I pick the DeLorean every time.

Still Starsky and Hutch's Torino skidding through intersections --- makes a statement.

Re: You have to get there...

My gut was to say DeLorean, but having people yell "1.21 jigowatts!" at you every twenty seconds would get annoying quickly. Pass on Starsky, because the show was before my time. The General Lee is tempting, but climbing out of the windows would be cool the first time and then really tedious after that.

I went with Cameron's dad's car.

I'd like to go off the grid and vote Batmobile, but if not, I'd prolly choose the Delorean, even though it sorta had some mechanical issues.

Re: You have to get there...

If I can't time travel in the DeLorean then it's a no-brainer - I'm taking the 1969 Dodge Charger with the 440 Magnum Mopar engine.

Listed above as The General Lee.

Had a friend in high school who had one and man, that thing was a bad-ass.

Thought about including the Batmobile, then left it out because no one in their right minds would ever choose another car. Ever.

Are we just talking about judging the car on its merits, or with cultural cachet attached? Like, in this imaginary world where we have our choice of these cars, is it known that I'm driving the Starsky car, or is it just, like, a cool Gran Torino? Also, time-travel aside, do these cars work exactly like they did in their respective shows/films?

What I'm trying to say is, can I jump gullys-- or Sanitation trucks, or stray pets-- in the General Lee?

(Am vacillating 'twixt Torino and the good General. The Ferraris are tempting, but I'm pretty certain either one would be keyed within 30 minutes of my taking possession of it.)

Re: You have to get there...

Can I trade the Delorean in for the Gran Torino?, the damn Dolorean is a piece of crap to drive.

Re: You have to get there...

Every car can do what it's supposed to do except that the Delorean can't time travel (that would make it a runaway I would think).

People not only know the cultural cachet, they are in awe.

Can I paint over any confederate flags on the vehicle?

No, you can't. Nor can you unseal the doors. You also can't take off all the ducts and stuff from the Delorean (though you can remove the giant hook since it wasn't there originally). You can't replace the hand-placed light on the Gran Torino with a permanent structure. You can't replace the racing steering wheel on KITT, and you can't take miles off of Cameron's odometer by driving it reverse.

Re: You have to get there...

James Bond's Aston Martin is looking mighty appealing, especially with its' functioning ejector seat. I also like the restored Dodge-Plymouth SuperBird that Joe Dirt ended up with. Is it a bad thing to want what Joe Dirt wants?

But I'll go with the Bueller Ferrari if I'm "limited" to the list.

Not just ANY Batmobile. It has to be the 1960s television version. I'd drive it everywhere. Everywhere. As in, "I need to go check the mailbox at the end of the driveway" everywhere.

Couldn't get the image to work, but here's the link.

Rethinking my answer.

Does KITT come with the brilliant computer that can scan the environment and drive for me?

If I can't travel through time, I don't really care. But getting to hang out with Mia Sara would be nice.

I would take the Bond Aston Martin in a heartbeat if we're going off the board (and not going Bats).

But yeah, gimme the Gran Torino.

Given the choices, I went for the deLorean, but actually, I'd take Herbie. You'd not only get there on time, you'd get the girl and live happily ever after.

Re: You have to get there...

Going with the Ferrari - mainly because it, and the BttF DeLorean, are the only ones I really know; never watched any of the other shows. Plus I'm hoping the girl might come with it.

And if you think my lack of familiarity with these autos makes ME sound clueless ... a bunch of years ago my father was one of a group of L.I. artists who got hooked up with a children's hospital charity that NYJ Marty Lyons used to run. There was a Christmas time party where the athletes would show up and the tag-along artists would draw pictures for the sick kids.
So one year a kid asks dad to draw him a picture of the General Lee - and then was profoundly disappointed when, a few minutes later, he was handed a sketch of a white-haired guy in a gray military uniform. Dad, being a clueless old guy (probably 50 at the time) totally out of the 'Dukes of Hazzrd' demographic, had no freakin' idea in the world what the kid was talking about.

Been on a recent Starsky & Hutch DVD binge. Never watched it in first-run. I stand by that decision. But man, I was thinking recently, what a cool car.

If you have a young boy, that SuperBird is associated with one and only one character:

I'd keep the Batmobile locked safely in my compound, but if I wanted to cruise the strip, I'd do in the MunsterKoach, or whatever it was called.

If I ever needed high performance, I swap it out for Grandpa's Drag-U-La.
