Who else is on board for Friday night's Jayhawks show? What kind of layout does Webster Hall have? Should we meet aforehand?

Re: Where Have All My Friends Gone?

The whole damn crowd seems so far away, huh?

Had to bail and go with Thursday here. (Friday is BetterHalfer's birthday.)

Lunchpail will be be at his granny's so we can meet yas in the city for some eats before if you like. Also, if you don;t mind couches and/or floors (or the shed out back) you're welcome to stay over (tho we gotta get up early Sat).

Don't know nothin about Webster Hall including where it is.

How good of you. We're working on some arrangements, but like the thought of being left behind to wreck your place on Saturday morning while you go to temple.

Thought there were more folks in on this.

There ought to be. This promises to be the concert event of the decade.

Hey let us know how this goes, and your suggestions as to timing our arrival. They say doors at 7?

And anybody who wants to meet the DCs and the Buckets downtown beforehand, email edgydc (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Oh, dass good stuff.

You've got plenty of options on Third for drinks (including the Village Pourhouse on the corner). If you're looking slightly more upscale, there's a decent Veggie Thai place a little further downtown on Third, or Momofuku Ssam on 2nd off 12th (mmm, pork belly Chinese buns!) or Venicio's (sp?) on 12th/1st (IIRC).

Show starts promptly at 8. Like, almost to the second.

They're in fine, fine form; HtH was lovely, with "Sister Cry" and "Clouds" probably the loveliest. We got roughly half of TtGG as well, plus other goodies, like the Victoria Williams song they did for Sweet Relief and a roadhouse-tear-in-your-beer version of "Reason to Believe."

Louris is clear as a winter church bell. Olson's voice is slightly more raggedy around the fringes, but that's to be expected; what's mildly alarming is that he looks a little like an older, jollier Julian Assange these days.

Yeah, you can really tell their lives forked in two different directions.

They say it's a sellout. What's the crowd situation?

Re: Where Have All My Friends Gone?

Nice. It's good that they're not just getting back together for the oldiez.

By the way, from the moment I was waiting on line at the coatcheck, I was staring at the dilapidated surroundings, wondering what shows I had seen at this place before back in my callow youth. I was pretty sure I had seen Eurythmics there once.

The answer turned out to be... virtually everything, as my brother informed me that Webster Hall used to be the Ritz --- where I must've seen 20 shows between 1985 and 1989. The classy braided facades on the arch and the balcony were completely different, but they must've pulled the old ones off to reinstall them at the uptown Ritz (which itself was the old Studio 54).
