Wife: Unknown.

Random Nickname that Won't Stick: "Meaty, Beaty, Big, and Bouncy"

Best Day in 2010: Hu did next to nothing in 2010 at the big league level. Indeed, he had little opportunity to. But he did manage to double, score, and collect an RBI that certainly proved
a difference-maker in a September 29 victory over Colorado.

Last Word: Hu wore 14 as a Dodger and assigned 17 as a Met, so has the distinction of wearing the numbers of two of the most legendary defensive firstbasemen, both of which numbers
have factions calling for the retirement thereof. (Did I say that right?) While there is competition for his spot, he's probably a better defender than the others and is most claimable should
the Mets try to sneak him down, so he has a darn good chance of making the roster if they (a) shed Luis Castillo, (b) farm out Daniel Murphy, or (c) return Brad Emaus to his prior team. But
he also was once an MVP of the Futures Game. Check him out.

That should provide adequate sustenance for the Doctor Hu marathon. What do you expect of Chin-lung Hu in 2011?

Check out those super low walks and super-low strikeouts. He's like a Rey-O wannabe.

Only without the great D! Excellent-- a poor man's Rey!

I don't expect much, but let's be fair and consider his minor league numbers too. A hunnert and ten plate appearances spread like jelly over the giant cracker of four seasons is not much to go on.

We'll see more of him after Reyes is unloaded midseason.

I'm going to guess we see very little of him, if anything.

Re: Expectations of Eleven: Chin-lung Hu

He'll stick as the backup Middle Infielder. He'll get roughly 12 games at SS (Because I think they need to rest Reyes a wee bit more than they did in his 161 games a year seasons. keep him fresher) and maybe a tick more at 2B if he hits and Murphy is only average. (or whoever) I expect we'll see a lot of him as a defensive replacement at second early on.

25 starts, maybe 150 AB. Don't expect much of him. .260 average, couple of walks. a few hits here and there. 2 home runs. .3 WAR

Re: Expectations of Eleven: Chin-lung Hu

back up mi.
has a few spot starts early on for reyes, but luis hernandez replaces him as ss for july because his bat isn't up to par.
gets a start ss for all of august, once people realize hernandez isn't much better and raises his average a bit and shows some consistency, but there's tejada to see and evaluate in september.

How great is this line:

"He provides a nice set of capabilities for us," Alderson said.

I love this passive-aggro bastard. (For now.)

I wonder if a non-Asian reporter showed up and asked Alderson about the Mets' plans to sign more American players.

The Irish Voice was there, either they were looking for Pete Flynn or wondering where the Irish players were.

It was positively Omarian. Not to be making fun of the foreign press -- I'd love it if this signing succeeds in expanding the fan base by only one -- but boy do these papers need more informed reporters.

You know, if you're looking for an angle to stick your foot in the door as a New York sports reporter, you could do worse than to submit a baseball-informed profile on Hu for New York's Chinese press:
