There's a picture that's worth a thousand words!

Never heard of him, but that photo makes me feel that I know him well.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Jan 20 2011 06:10 AM Re: Tim Byrdak |
I hope he leaves that red glove in Houston. Boy the Astros really lost their way with that whole brick-colored scheme. They have got to bring back the spacesuit orange.

MFS62 Jan 20 2011 08:10 AM Re: Tim Byrdak |
Is that a baseball glove or a jai alai cesta?

I agree. Florescent orange with camouflage.

That looks like a pic of a guy goofing around at an Astros Fantasy Camp.

This LOOGy needs your help. Which look should he go with?

Can he look more like Randy Choate?

Edgy DC Jan 20 2011 10:09 AM Re: Tim Byrdak |
LOOGy is a tough thing to pull off.

It's official , Mets announce the deal....
|
Benjamin Grimm Jan 21 2011 08:39 AM Re: Tim Byrdak |
In a so-called "do nothing" off-season, the Mets are adding a lot of players.
|
Rockin' Doc Jan 21 2011 09:03 AM Re: Tim Byrdak |
I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid the many signings are more quantity, rather than quality. Time will tell.
|
Benjamin Grimm Jan 21 2011 09:05 AM Re: Tim Byrdak |
Well, yeah, they're definitely quantity. Hopefully enough of them will provide the quality needed for the team to be competitive. I'm both hopeful and doubtful.
|
Edgy DC Jan 21 2011 09:24 AM Re: Tim Byrdak |
The idea is certainly to get quality out of quantity --- the eggs-in-different-baskets thing. I'd certainly rather have three two-million-dollar players than one six-million-dollar one. That's probably true with a good GM or a not-so-good one.

We said that about RA Dickey last year, and we wound up catching lightning. The guys they're picking up all seem to be guys who can contribute, at least.

To everything there is a season. I'm afraid Tim's season may have come and gone already but you never know.

Turn turn turn...

smg58 Jan 21 2011 09:34 AM Re: Tim Byrdak |
As long as one of either Byrdak or Tankersley shows positive signs in spring that carry over to the season, the Mets will be happy. I still wouldn't mind adding one or two more legit relievers, though.

Who's Johnny V? And is he married to Lance Berkman?

Benjamin Grimm Feb 16 2011 02:04 PM Re: Tim Byrdak |
Terry Collins reportedly said today that Byrdak is a "lock" for the bullpen. (Along with Bobby Parnell.)
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 16 2011 02:15 PM Re: Tim Byrdak |
They should play "Eight Miles High" when he jogs in from the pen.

Two questions:
|
Ceetar Aug 23 2011 08:00 PM Re: Tim Byrdak |
|
Given that they have to reload the entire rest of the bullpen except Parnell and perhaps Carrasco (contract) and maybe Beato, I'd say yes. I don't think it's worth the effort of trying to find another LOOGY, who's basically going to be either slightly worse or slightly better than Byrdak for slight more or less money.
|
Edgy DC Aug 23 2011 08:12 PM Re: Tim Byrdak |
I certainly don't think there's any intention to "unload" Beato.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 23 2011 08:12 PM Re: Tim Byrdak |
easy come, easy go with these loogies.
|
Edgy DC Aug 23 2011 08:18 PM Re: Tim Byrdak |
Certainly. But good relieving has been hard enough to come by that I think he's certainly earned a look.
|
Ceetar Aug 23 2011 08:18 PM Re: Tim Byrdak |

not off the team, no. But there's plenty of speculation about him being a Bison.
|
Frayed Knot Aug 23 2011 08:22 PM Re: Tim Byrdak |
Some speculation about him being made into a starter as well.
