Met Le Grande

If you're like me (and God help you if you are), you spend an inordinate amount of your time wondering which future Met will get the coveted title of Met # 1000. You think about in your sleep, during your commute, during periods of heightened physical activity, and during long hours in your sensory deprivation chamber.

If you're like me.

So I decided to stop just wondering and dig at the question. The truth is: chances are that Met #1000 isn't in the system yet. He or she is toiling for somebody else or is an amateur with no clue of the historic title that awaits.

But not everybody is in the clubhouse, so I looked through the system, sorting the players by highest level they've achieved and birthdays and such. Of course, they're all moving up at different rates, but it's got to be at least a little bit illustrative to look at the current placement of those in the competition for this profund honor.

Currently looking ahead:

Projected Met #PlayerStatus
896Brad Emaus40-Man Roster
897Scott Hairston40-Man Roster
898D.J. Carrasco40-Man Roster
899Taylor Buchholz40-Man Roster
900Pedro Beato40-Man Roster
925John LujanBinghamton Roster
950Brad HoltSt. Lucie Roster
975Chris HilliardBrooklyn Roster
1000Brandon SageSavannah Roster

So that's the way it shakes out. The expected (never gonna happen in a million years) 1000th Met will be Savannah lefthanded reliever Brandon Sage. Brandon isn't a bad Gnat, going 3-6 with a 3.07 ERA and seven saves in 2010. He struck out 49 batters in 58 2/3 innings and walked only 12. Like Tommie Agee, Cleon Jones, and many other stars, he played his boyhood ball in Mobile, Alabama. He hunts deer with a bow and arruh (nickname: "Hunterman") and he was awesome in 2009 for Brooklyn. Describing his impressions of Brooklyn, he said "“There are a lot more buildings.”

Met number 1000, ladies and gents.

It's gonna be a broken down dispirited Derek Jeter.

Re: Met Le Grande

This thread is the Met equivalent of popping one off into a napkin. Nicely done.

This thread is like weaving and embroidering a napkin, then popping off into it.
