I'm running out of room in the subject heading field - so this is Match #1 in the Quarterfinals found of the CPF World Series of Sit-coms

In this match, the #8 overall seed and previous round basher of MASH, 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show', takes on the overall top seed 'All in the Family' in M-T-M's second straight battle of 1970s-era CBS Saturday night shows.

Who's your choice?
Polls stay open for 48 hours.

Boy, the way Glen Miller turned the world on with a smile
Songs that made the Hit Parade, and suddenly made it all seem worth while
Well it's you, girl, and guys like us, we had it made
With each breath and every little movement, those were the days

Painful choice, but I went with the Bunkers.

Same here. MTM was wonderful, but AiTF was ground-breaking in so many more ways.

I knew from the beginning that, no matter who it was up against, I'd never vote against All in the Family.

Sorry, Mary. You can turn the world on with your smile, and I'm glad you made it this far, but I have to go with Archie and Edith here.

This one hurts.

I appreciate the Bunkers, and how important AitF was.

I still enjoy MtM.

Case in point.

OK, new rule. No posting links that will take all my willpower not to goof off with for a half hour.

First three seasons on there, including "Put On a Happy Face" (Mary being funny!), solid Rhoda episode "Rhoda the Beautiful," and many others.

No Death-of-Chuckles or any Betty White (intro'd in Season 4), though, sadly.

(Dick Van Dyke, The Bob Newhart Show, Arrested Development-- the whole series-- and a host of other WSoS nominees are available, too...)

Mary, Queen of Sweeps.

Archie's awesome, too. Watching a little recently reminded me of how Norman Lear's plan backfired -- instead of generating sympathy for good-thinking Meatheads everywhere, a sizable chunk of viewers identified with your straight-talkin' whaddayacall real American there. By the end of one ep I was kind of sympathizing with Arch' over Mike's self-righteousness.

If there's an edge to be discerned, it's that I could spend all night watching the prime of Miss Richards, whereas the expired topicality of All In The Family tends to wilt. Also, it could get loud in the Bunker household. Impassioned times, but do you always have to be shouting?

Went for Barbara Colby's memory and MTM.

I really don't mind that sympathy tended to fall to Archie. I mean, the yucks who were buying "Archie is my hero" t-shirts were probably a tiny but obvious minority. And it was typcally well-played that Archie's bombast tended to wilt not in the face of Mike's condescending rational superiority, but rather in the face of the harsh light of reality.

Archie Bunker was like my grandfather, a loud-mouthed bigot who was lovable regardless.

We had a big debate about this once in college. The thoughts: Archie was certainly ignorant and coarse, but deep down he was a good guy. A real racist wouldn't let the Jeffersons in the house. When he found out the club he joined was actually the Klan, he quit. He took the Meathead into his home despite their differences. Despite not being openly religious, he snuck off to get the grandson baptized.

I think he was openly religious. He just didn't like going to church because he didn't like the reverend, if I remember right.
