Don't be fooled by the truncated title in the subject line, it's NOT the 2000s-era teen soap-opera show 'The O.C.*' that we're voting on here but rather the 1970-1975 classic 'The Odd Couple' taking on the 'Bob Newhart Show'

Oscar & Felix are coming off a bye week (half-week really) take their #4 seeded show against the 5th seed Bob Newhart and the first of his three individual sit-coms in another pairing of contemporaneous shows.

* Why The OC btw? If OC stood for Orange County, why was the definite article thrown in there?

Ad much as I loved The Odd Couple in its day, I have trouble watching it now - it's just too dated.

Thus, in a tough call, I went with Bob.

Love both shows, but I have a soft spot for Felix and Oscar. I can't say whether it's dated or not; I haven't seen the show in many years. (Thanks, three thousand cable channels that I get that don't carry these great classic sitcoms, but televise Fresh Prince and Full House instead!)

If there's a Hall of Fame of sitcom actors, Tony Randall is on my first ballot. (Along with Carroll O'Conner, Jackie Gleason, and Art Carney.)

Summer between 7th and 8th grade, WPIX showed Odd Couple reruns at 6, 7, 11, and 11:30. I never missed them.
Odd Couple it is.

Know what would bea good show? Bob Hartley, conducting research in New York, leaves Emily in Chicago and has to crash with Felix (and old college chum) and Oscar for a few weeks. He gets a load of their fabulously dysfunctional friendship and incredulously tries to steer them toward a detente. Ironically, they unite --- but in shared pity for the stammering over-wrought shrink whose blood pressure continues to raise comically at the impossiblity of making peace.

We need some Mets hats on those plauques.

(By the way, if you need a moneymaking idea, people would pay to get into that Hall of Fame of yours. Just saying.)

Another stinger.

The two-man weave beats Bob's cavalcade of weird. BARELY.

Willie Tallman says bet on the Odd Couple, but save two dollars for socks!

Except in the American League, I don't know that I've ever before sided with Chicago over New York before (taste for deep dish aside). But Bob was woven so splendidly. Odd Couple more lovable than brilliant, not that it didn't have dozens of moments.

Tough call, but Oscar and Felix have entered the language.

Voted for The Odd Couple. Never really a Newhart fan I guess.
