The 'Honeymooners', crowned the king of the 1950s thanks to its disposal of 'I Love Lucy', takes its #6 seed up against the 3rd ranked late-70s & early '80s heavyweight 'Taxi'

Which one of these shows gets to take their mostly single-set show on to the semis?

I take the bus driver over the cabbies.

I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't love The Honeymooners. So I went with Taxi.

Honeymooners gets my vote against anybody, except All in the Family.

Taxi was fun, but it's not nearly in the same class.

If I ranked the 8 quarterfinalists by personal preference, these two would rank 7 and 8.

Kinda with TMF, never thought Ralph and Norton were all that.

Slight edge to Reverend Jim and the guys.

Not as small a minority as you might think.

I'll parrot myself in another of these QFs: I appreciate Ralph and Norton. I enjoy Taxi.

Vive le ensemble.

Taxi. Honeymooners lasted for one year. One.

It's a one-vote margin. Let's do it demoliton style. Five Manhattan cabbies against a Brooklyn bus driver with an explosive temper.

Taxi was a gem when it premiered and it never really lost its footing. It even handled having two "wacky" characters, Jim and Latka, without becoming unbelievable. Yet Ralph and Norton...geez, the chemistry. I never took chemistry in high school because I got enough of it on Channel 11.

I'll take the bus.

Taxi was brilliant, but I gotta throw it under the bus. There was never a comedy like The Honeymooners.

I voted for Taxi. Another sitcom I grew up on watching syndicated reruns with my father.

Re: WS of Sit-coms Q-finals #3 -- Honeymooners vs Taxi

For me, The Honeymooners was the one I grew up watching re-runs with my father back when I was of the age where being told that it was the show The Flinstones was based on impressed me. So when the next wave of 'mooners nostalgia came around when I was in HS it was the second go around for me even as a lot of my friends were discovering it for the first time. When the college-age nostalgia for Ralph & Ed hit I knew 'em all by then.

Taxi on the other hand was of my era but I somehow missed the show entirely. Not until I saw an SNL with Danny DeVito hosting did I even know who he was and my main memory of it is being stunned that a short, bald, dumpy guy who looked like him was even on TV. And by that point the show was almost over because during his monologue he announced that 'Taxi' had just been picked up by NBC (for its final season as it turned out) after being dumped by ABC following four seasons there.
I intermittently caught a handful of re-runs in later years but that was about it.

I didn't watch The Honeymooners with my dad. He's never been one for watching "old" stuff, even if the old stuff wasn't "before his time." But we did watch All in the Family together during its initial run.

That doesn't mean, however, that I don't have father-son Honeymooners memories. A few years ago I ordered the DVD that I posted a link to in one of the other threads; the classic 39 episodes, and I watched them with my wife and kids. My daughter couldn't get past the black-and-white, but my son and I had a great time watching and laughing uproariously. (I mean, LMAFO, or whatever.)

He had an Ed Norton t-shirt that he wears to school sometimes. The teachers know who it is, but none of the kids do.

Re: WS of Sit-coms Q-finals #3 -- Honeymooners vs Taxi

I was raised by a single mom, and she wasn't much of a sitcom fan. She sure did like modes of transportation, though... especially for getting to and from places.

We didn't take many taxis around, unless we were escorting my grandmother to Gimbel's or one of her many court appearances. But we did ride the bus a lot when I was growing up, most often crosstown and up-/downtown from the UWS to the LES (where my first two schools were) or City Hall (where we would post bail roughly every two weeks for grandma). Every now and again, people would get loud, but most of those rides were uneventful as a Benadictine's social calendar. Still, my mom was puppy-nipple perky, and when something even slightly unnerving or scary would happen on the bus-- be it leering crazy dude, or the prospect of true love-- she'd turn to me and whisper, "Someone should film this, guy!" Then we'd share a piece of candy or two. Actually, more often, it was a Luden's cough drop, because my mother liked to pretend that I was sick for most of my childhood.

Looking back, I really did love those bus rides.

But then, I kind of resent my mom a little. Not for spending 2/3 of my childhood in oxygen tents, but for different, mostly-diet-related reasons.

So, yeah, Taxi it is.

Was that actually submitted by the Taxi writing staff?
