Game 161 should've meant more.

I think my favorite Maine memory was Game 6 of the NLCS in 2006, when he outdueled Chris Carpenter to force Game 7.

I enjoyed watching his rehab start with the B-Mets in Trenton last June. I thought he was on his way back instead of on his way out.

It's been a while since we've seen-- and it'll be a while, I s'pect, since we'll see-- a neck like that.

I was following the near-no-hitter while at East Zeeland High School, loving that the school had wi-fi and I could use my laptop. I really thought he was going to get that one.

The night he threw five pitches before getting hurt. Listened to the game on my way to the city for a concert.

He was a pretty crappy hitter, but his 2007 homer off of Ian Snell was the last by a Met pitcher until Johan took Matt Maloney of the Reds deep this season.

The one-hitter (shared with two relievers) was about as sublime and as draining as one of those near-misses could be. The sucking it up and delivering quality innings to start Game One vs. the Dodgers and Game Six vs. the Cardinals were, to use Bob Murphy's vernacular, courageous. The five-pitch exit interview was tough to fathom. John Maine made Jerry Manuel look good, for crissake.

I remember the time he hit Chase Utley twice (and almost a third if I recall) in the same game. Stay off the plate!

Swan Swan H went the way of Rod Barajas HRs after this game, looks like.

That game 161 was some kind of performance.

Never looked all that happy but was a likable guy , had that game which at the end of the day will be a nice cherry on a sub .500 career

Leaves Flushing 23rd on the all-time Mets win list with 39. When Ed Lynch left town in 1986 with 38, that was a top-ten figure.

Was leading Dwight Gooden (7.78 K/9 inn.) in K/9 inn as a Met until his last two outings. Maine finishes with 7.75 K/9 inn. Am surprised that it was even this close.

I always liked Maine. I think the Mets got the best that John Maine had to offer, but I'm afraid his best is well behind him now. I wish him well.
