Terry Collins, 4/13/11: "We're one pitch away and one swing away from being 9-2, and we're not. But the next 11 we need to be 9-2. We need to get it going and do the things we haven't done thus far." This is a hell of a thing to say 11 games into your managerial stint, no? But subpar play on the opening homestand given ticket sales is a real desperate situation for this team IMO.

Although that's what everyone will be running with, he's not actually saying the Mets need to be 9-2. He's saying that the Mets need to win the games they put themselves in the position to win, by getting that hit and making that pitch. It might not always equate to 9-2 over any given 11 game stretch though.

“I mean I think we have shown even with some of these injuries that we’ve had you look at [Pedro] Beato, who was arguably one of our best relievers, he was on the DL. He’s hopefully back today or somewhat soon. I think when you put us together I don’t think there’s one thing and you look at and you get kind of wowed at, but I think collectively you got a bunch of scrappy guys that love going out there and playing baseball that know how to play the game the right way.
