Although that's what everyone will be running with, he's not actually saying the Mets need to be 9-2. He's saying that the Mets need to win the games they put themselves in the position to win, by getting that hit and making that pitch. It might not always equate to 9-2 over any given 11 game stretch though.

Even the way the reiterations align is gorgeous. It's like he had an intuitive sense of how many beats to wait before returning to to his empty point. I love the guy and I hope to someday live with him. To wake up a cook him a stack of pancakes while he sleeps in, because he works hard enough. But sometimes I wonder if he's the Cal Ripken of bullshit.
