Ballpark Food 2011
themetfairy Feb 24 2011 03:34 PM |
The West Michigan Whitecaps are looking for input as to what menu item they should add in 2011. I'm all for Chicks with Sticks, but I suspect that you guys would prefer some of the other options.

None of the above lol.

metsguyinmichigan Feb 24 2011 04:13 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
Yeah Whitecaps!!!!! This is the team that plays four miles from my home.

I'm certain that I've made three of these while... um... PED-aided ravenous.

Benjamin Grimm Feb 25 2011 04:58 AM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
I'd go with the Honey Bun Burger.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Feb 25 2011 09:05 AM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
Like any red-blooded American, I get maple-kissed sausage. Like most any meat-lover, I get the caramelized-onion-and-barbecue-sauce on a nicely-salted burger or thin-sliced grilled steak taste mix. I was raised mostly by the Filipino side of my family, so there's a whole bunch of other funky taste melanges-- salty/bitter/umami, sweet and a little fishy-- I've come to appreciate, if not love.

Yeah. I'm firmly in favor of the meat salad, however.

Because it has to be healthy, being a salad and all....

DocTee Feb 25 2011 11:42 AM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
The meat pafait is damn tempting.

It's shepherd's pie in a glass, with BBQ sauce on top.

I was just tentatively invited to a Whitecaps game.

Come on over! I'll sit with you. You're on your own with a Fifth Third Burger, but one of the snacks is on me. I do see people buying the massive burger. You get a t-shirt if you can finish it. But usually a group of people will buy it and cut it into pieces. A lot of bread.
|
Ceetar Feb 25 2011 01:32 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |

A free t-shirt? ooooh.. I don't see how i can go all the the way to Michigan and not have the burger. Of course, I'll be there with my wife who will probably straighten me out. (I don't have a life insurance policy) I wanted to go to the Mets vs. Tigers, but it's midweek so would be taxing on the vacation allotment.

No more concession lines at Miller Park?
|
Ceetar Mar 30 2011 02:12 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
They tried that out at Citizen's Bank Park last year in September. integrated with the MLB At Bat app. They'res an update coming tomorrow or tonight I imagine, but I think we would've heard if they were doing it locally.

Gotta love how they sell their labor reduction efforts as benefits for you, the schlub. It's win-win!
|
Ceetar Mar 30 2011 02:31 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
on that note, Washington apparently got Shake Shack, Taqueria, Blue Smoke and Box Frites in the ballpark. ditched 5 guys. I hope they didn't take our beer too :-( but probably.

Hooray! Bad planning by the Nationals as they won't be open until "before June."
|

This irks me. Five Guys is an actual locally-based company, no? PLUS... you can't tweak the concepts to make 'em... y'know, not the same fucking thing you "specially designed" for CitiField?
|
bmfc1 Mar 30 2011 02:59 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
You have a good point LWFS about the local businesses. I hope that this doesn't effect Ben's Chili Bowl.

Wait, am I going to have a reason to go to non-Mets Nationals games now?
|
Gwreck Mar 30 2011 03:36 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
Um, what the f? Our signature concessions have now been transplanted to Nationals Park as well? Not cool.
|
Ceetar Mar 30 2011 03:45 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |

writings been on the wall, Citi field was just a wise waypoint on their expansion. I think they have one in Philly now (not the park) and Florida. (checking, Miami, don't see one in Philly, though I remember hearing about it) In a way, Shake Shack is what 5guys was 10 years ago? Only I think it tastes much better. and they serve beer. and are/were wind powered. Also, SNY cameras always linger over food.
|
themetfairy Mar 30 2011 03:50 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
The Shake Shack on Columbus and 77th gave out free shakes after the Marathon to the runners last November. Best shake I ever had!
|
Gwreck Mar 30 2011 03:51 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
As noted above, I'd be mighty pissed if I were the Mets, that the "specially designed for Citi Field" stuff got copied elsewhere.
|

Five Guys is a Baltimore MD company with a stranglehold on southern NJ...More DC than NY..
|
Ceetar Mar 30 2011 03:59 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
I mean, everyone wants to copy NY. look at McFaddens.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Mar 30 2011 04:01 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |

Columbus and 77th... in New York, yes? Grumblegrumblegrumble.
|
Ceetar Mar 30 2011 04:10 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |

That was actually there second location. lines are a little shorter. But..why don't we have a Grimaldi's at Citi? long running sponsors with those other places? (the pizza in Citi is actually pretty good. so is the lasagna.) Grimaldi's is another place that's expanding (Vegas, Hoboken) . I had margarita style pizza like that cooked in a makeshift oven on a sidewalk in brooklyn last weekend, so i'm sure they could do that at Citi Field.

Yep. And this isn't the sort of organization that wantonly screws over its business partners.

Yes - right across from the Museum of Natural History.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Mar 30 2011 06:27 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
Yeah, I know. Was just grumbling obliquely about their setting up prominent shop at Nationals Park.

themetfairy Mar 30 2011 06:35 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
So far the New York City Marathon still takes place in New York ;)

As good a reason as any to bring Ben's Chili and Primanti's to Citi Field.
|
Ceetar Mar 30 2011 09:04 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |

I'd take SF garlic fries and Chickie and Petes personally. Or add a good cheesesteak (doesn't have to be those 'just as good as most random places in NY' places from Philly)
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Mar 30 2011 09:19 PM Re: Ballpark Food 2011 |
Tony Luke's Roast Pork Italian-- con sharp provolone and garlic sauteed broccoli rabe-- is the real Philly sammich winner, if we're poaching.

So overrated it's not funny. Orlando's Cha Cha Bowl way better.
I think they have Geno's at C.B Park -- last time I was there was 2007 so may have changed. But the best ballpark food I've had outisde Citi was the Chili at Nats Park - by a long, long way.
